I worked at Bare Escentuals part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Pay is really good
Depending on retail location, management was really good!
Managers are very flexible with schedules and for the most part are willing to work on your schedule!
Job is very simple, just need to have makeup knowledge and application knowledge

    Cons

Depending on retail location, business can vary between being very slow, fast paced, steady pace. My location was very slow, but the weekends were steady to fast paced.

    Pros

Great motivation and working attitude for company

    Cons

hard sales driven aspects, not so customer focused

    Advice to Management

motivate for the right reasons, and realize having a good experience could be just as valuable as selling a product.

I worked at Bare Escentuals (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is room for growth if you work hard enough.

    Cons

The position was way too sales-oriented for me when what I wanted was to work corporate, pay was okay, raises were laughable.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time finding out what the goals of your employees are so that you can help them get there.

I worked at Bare Escentuals part-time

    Pros

Always something new, education on new products each year, on boarding training

    Cons

Compared to other beauty companies more training could be given, no two store managers run things the same way, lack of strong leadership

    Advice to Management

Training for store managers before and during the process. Had a store manager that was great in the beginning and then turned terrible from lack of discipline and training.

I have been working at Bare Escentuals part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Flexible scheduling for students
    - Semi-competitive pay
    - 50% discount
    - Gratis is pretty good
    - Easy to make friends
    - Generally, easy tasks to complete
    - time off is generally pretty easy to get, except for holidays

    Cons

    - Pay disparity--BAs, Keyholders and Assistant manager don't have much of a pay difference between them
    - Getting called in on my days off, expected to stay late if someone decides not to come in
    - made to feel guilty if I didn't want to cover or switch someone's shifts
    - very catty at some times
    - manager sits in back all the time
    - some really rude, pretentious customers
    - holiday blackout days, very difficult to get holiday time with family
    - extended holiday hours
    - younger, college-aged employees don't care about their job
    - company communication down to retail level is poor--short notice given for visual changes, company meetings are inconvenient and unorganized (this is not true for all stores, some managers are very good at this), constant communication changes
    - Company has lost sight of it's vision since moving to NYC
    - forced to do makeup on people that don't pay for anything
    - inconsistent sales message: told store numbers matter than individual sales, but then reprimanded for not making goals.
    - hard to move up

    Advice to Management

Make communication better and timely. Offer more competitive pay. Don't push employees to makes sales and then tell them it's only about the customer experience and pushing sales doesn't matter. Charge for events: prom, weddings, and others. Stop with the busy work--i.e. paperwork and data that doesn't get used.

    Pros

So understanding to the needs of the employees.

    Cons

A click was already formed when I got there and some people treated me like I needed to earn my place. Even if I was the one doing the best job there and wanting to work as a team.

    Advice to Management

Even if the employees have bee. There a while hold them accountable for not following rules or being rude.
