    Pros

Approachable management, genuinely interested in giving employees the tools and resources we need to do great work for the company's benefit and our own benefit as professionals wanting to grow in our career. It is regularly expressed to me that I am a valued employee and contribute to the company's success, and that is great for morale.

    Cons

The commute to the downtown office can sometimes be a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Would be great to see executives in branch offices more regularly

    Pros

The size of the firm is really great. I get the impression that I can reach my career goals more easily than in a big firm. Management seems to genuinely care about employees which isn't always common in this industry. They are very transparent with company information. Overtime can be converted to comp time.

    Cons

In previous years, I've heard that there were layoffs so that can be concerning. However, I think BWSC has done a great job of doing business development during the time I've been here.

PTO is also fairly low compared to other places I've worked, but as mentioned above, overtime hours can be converted to comp time, so that helps.

    Advice to Management

Look at strengthening the PTO policy.

    Pros

BWSC was a great place to work. I enjoyed the people and the projects!

    Cons

BWSC invests in their people and makes them a priority. Due to a lower workload, a downsize had to occur. When a reduction in force happens you let go of some people that needed to go before the reduction or you let go of some valued employees that just didn't have a heavy enough workload (for a while without a change in outlook on the horizon). Either way, I believe BWSC uses any layoff as a last resort.

    Pros

Corporate Wellness Initiatives. Insurance. Annual Stock Holder Event. Annual Raises.

    Cons

Keep your head down and do your best to stay busy. They will layoff employees at moments notice to keep stock on a profitable trend. Top heavy corporate structure that is fueled by cronyism on the board. Will promise training, promotions and valuable experience but will work you excessive hours while project managers take ill timed vacations. Will give annual raises and bonuses but salaries are under market and when presented with relevant salary surveys for your industry counterparts, they shrug it off and tell you to be happy with what you have. Many employees are genuinely jaded or spiritually broken.

I worked at Barge Design Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I am trying to think of a good aspect to my time with BWSC. I guess the commute was nice? Otherwise I couldn't stand it, and spent almost every minute outside of that place looking for a new job.

    Cons

Political Good ole' boy environment. This place is run by a bunch of yes-men that underneath all of their words, don't know much. As a result, projects are run in a similar fashion, with a bunch of people with a lot of talk, but no action or technical capability.

    Advice to Management

    1. Legitimately sell work, by being clear with what you are capable of, and what you are not. I believe this is a big reason why the company is in such a downward spiral.
    2. At least try and act like you care about your employees and not just the stock price.. if you are not careful with the former, you'll find that you won't have a stock price. Period.
    3. Item number two means more than throwing a silly "annual meeting".
