I have been working at Barnard College

    Pros

There are many great people that work here. good vacation days. lots of sick days.

    Cons

Antiquated systems. No real raises for union employees. High turnover = always starting from square one with new people.

    Advice to Management

poll the middle staff workers on what needs to improve. the administrators are the ones that know how everything works.

    I worked at Barnard College

    Pros

For the one day I temped there, most people seemed nice, cordial, and friendly.

    Cons

Barnard contracts temps on an on-going basis. On day one there, I was terminated after informing HR of my medical condition. Just appalling!!

I have been working at Barnard College for more than 4 years

    Pros

Union benefits are excellent. Campus is pleasant. Other employees are generally friendly and interesting. Students are remarkable and often intellecualy stimulating.

    Cons

Management seems on its own track. Bottom line seems to be valued over institutional knowledge/value. Non-faculty staff feel less valued. Pay is low (you're working for benefits).

    Advice to Management

If you put the same energy into learning about your employees feelings, ideas and suggestions that you are putting into getting student, faculty, staff, and community on board with your new expensive library, you would improve employee morale and productivity.
