    I worked at Barney & Barney full-time

    Pros

Worked in the Bay Area office. They do look for good people so coworkers are great. Lot's of team events. Training opportunities are offered.

    Cons

Despite ongoing profits and growth, promotions are scant. I get the feeling that this may not be the same at HQ in San Diego, but very little advancement opportunities as the trend is for them to hire from outside. Wages seem to be far below what the market is offering. Inflexible work hours. They say they are flexible, but lunch is rigidly timed, you have to use up vacation time for doctors appointments, and... even if you have not used up all your sick time, sick days are frowned upon. Employee reviews are universally negative. (yes, we all talk so of course we know that it is not just one person getting a negative review).

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the training. But you should also find ways to promote from within, otherwise you are just training people to find great employment elsewhere. Be more flexible with work hours and worry more about the job getting done. Be more positive with the employee evaluations.

I worked at Barney & Barney part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Barney & Barney enriches the lives of their employees. There are various programs that support employee needs such as healthy lifestyle support, women in the workplace empowerment and numerous education programs. The people who work here are friendly and outgoing. All of the deparements work together to fufill the company's goals. As a new employee I was required to meet with all of the department leaders and upper... management to hear about why they love Barney & Barney and how they can help me during my time here. Incredible retention rate.

I worked at Barney & Barney full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fellow employees are great. Management is decent; they don't micromanage and are there for you if you need them. They listen. You are expected to take responsibility for your work, and are trusted to do it correctly/accurately. Company values are great; offer monthly value "courses" via webinar for employee enrichment. They feed you and provide treats and fun activities often. Try to promote from within.... Training/educational advancement is great; they have an entire department dedicated to learning and have bonuses/rewards upon completion. overall great teamwork environment.

    Cons

Office politics, especially between locations, will quickly and effectively minimize all of your best efforts. great ideas and major contributions from a satellite office will quickly render you a threat to HQ, resulting in stolen credit and recognition; new ideas are not usually well received. Service/support staff overworked and overall understaffed; management drags feet on hiring much needed help, despite... excessive overtime and exhaustion of staff.

    Advice to Management

Advice to HQ: look for innovative thinkers and embrace new ideas; shooting them down or ignoring them doesn't help the company; this is the #1 water cooler discussion. Advice to all: Ask your employees what they think! surveys, polls, suggestion cards. take the information you receive into consideration. You'd be surprised how much appreciation you'd get from adjusting office temperature, correcting office... lights scheduled hours (some employees are forced to work in the dark), etc. Ask! Sometimes requesting something be changed just isn't enough for management to bother, even if many people complain. if you take the initiative to ask (and follow through!) it will be well received.

I have been working at Barney & Barney full-time

    Pros

Great culture, many activities to look forward to and participate in (yoga, holiday events, philanthropy, etc.) Management tries to promote from within- a number of people have been at B&B for 30+ years - while also maintaining a young and vibrant workforce People are generally passionate about what they do- and they are good at their jobs, and their colleagues and clients can tell No signs of slowing down-... recording great growth and ownership has big plans for the next 8+ years-- it is an exciting place to work, where there is a unique combination of stability and opportunity to grow with the company I genuinely love it

    Cons

I have been working at Barney & Barney

    Pros

Good sense of community. Strong charity foundation. Job stability. Clear management structure. Three offices throughout California. Well known company in CA.

    Cons

The pay is unsatisfactory for all employees except the owners. Not much room for growth unless you are a sales associate.

    Advice to Management

The management needs to pay more attention to the individual needs of the associates. Many feel pigeon holed in their roles.
