    Pros

Worked with some really great people. Sadly, that is about all the is to say on the "Pro" side.

    Cons

All of the mining people who where in upper management have been run off and replaced with bean counters with no clue about mining and only concerned with their own bonus package. They sell off mines then insist on more production from less resources. They'll see a short term boost in the market, but it cannot be sustained.

    Advice to Management

Hire some executives who have a least some mining expertise (other than counting the profits).

    Pros

Good Benefits 401k Great Salary ok STI Great LTI Training

    Cons

    1) No upward movement even though you are classified as a HYPO- if you don't have a relationship with an executive you will not have upward Mobility in this company. 2) NO Transparency and senior mgt keeps hiring political hires - look at the Chilean mgt team for PL. 3) Culture - Barrick use to be a fun place to work now all the A players left and the C&D team remains in Corp mgt.

    Advice to Management

Bring in a miner to run the company, someone with FIELD experience not these laywyers and CA they have running around, with no idea what a mine site looks like. Get rid of Mc K there ideas got you guys in trouble in the first place...

    Cons

Miss managed from the corporate level.

    Advice to Management

Stop over extending yourself and start vetting the risk fully with the right people. Don't let the board members use all the equity for personnel gains.

    Pros

Constant change to the company in terms of goals direction and initiatives. New management has clear vision but not a path yet.

    Cons

Too many consultants and uninformed inexperienced mid level MBA types around. Lost good mining experience and replaced with opinions of the uninformed.

I have been working at Barrick Gold full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great training opportunities. Company provides systematic training plans for employees and it's easy to get resource to support one's work.

    Cons

Employee himselft/herself needs to know what training is necessary to make sure the training he/she gets is effective and useful for the current job.

    Advice to Management

Overall the training system is good. But it's better if company can get more technical support thirty parties' info to provide qualified technical service.

    I worked at Barrick Gold

    Pros

They have two good mines in NV, they pay well and there are some good people working there.

    Cons

Company has gone downhill lately, not just the layoffs but the company culture has suffered, almost like the company exists to protect the jobs of the executives and managers up top by sacrificing as many little guys as is necessary. Company is still run by people who make terrible financial decisions. This on

    Advice to Management

Stop running the company like it's a government welfare office, run it like a lean mean business.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Barrick Gold full-time

    Pros

Employees are treated very well with excellent compensation and benefits. There is solid local management at the mines and working conditions are generally good.

    Cons

Excessive interference from corporate management in daily operations. The implementation and management of expensive and counter-productive corporate mandates decreases the efficiency of the mines. Also the amount of debt amassed by the corporate leadership has put the company in a very difficult position.

    Advice to Management

Corporate management needs to start putting serious emphasis on fiscal responsibility and resist the temptation to try to solve every problem with an expensive software application. For example, rather than enforcing speed limits, the company spends millions of dollars maintaining a GPS system for every vehicle. A luxury that a company with $10 billion in debt can't afford.
