      Pros

Huge opportunity make a difference for the company, own projects from start to finish, get involved in multiple business areas, nice people, work life balance. Feels good working for a local family owned company.

      Cons

A bit behind the times with dress code at the corporate office, resistant to change, budgets are very tight. Pay is somewhat lacking.

Experience varies greatly by store and store manager

      Pros

The business is recession resilient, making you feel confident that you are guarenteed 40 hours a week if you're full time status. Competitive pay (for a drug store), well-rounded benefits package including PTO and employee discount.

      Cons

Your experience highly depends on your store and store manager. I've worked at stores where I have seriously considered just walking out. Unless you're an assistant manager or store manager, it's nearly impossible to have a work-life balance. I worked late shifts every day, and worked every weekend and holiday for 5 years. Because of constant pressure from upper management to make month-end goals, there is constant negativity flowing from the corporate office since it seems like we can never make our target. I feel that all the negativity truly does start at the top with the CEO. The company has an internal newsletter that is sent out every month and each issue includes a letter from the CEO. I can honestly say that I have read only one positive letter from him since I started here 5 years ago.

      Pros

Very 70's corporate office with many middle-aged and near retirees as staff. I considered this a good thing; many have worked there for over ten years, quite a few have worked there over 25 years! Great lunch room/break room, everyone is friendly, benefits are good.

      Cons

Salaries are outdated. Store cashiers (who are unionized) make several dollars more per hour than some staff accountants! In keeping with the 1970's theme, everything is paper, paper, paper. Transfers between stores and many accounting forms and invoices are actually handwritten in triplicate! They've got a huge accounting department pounding out numbers on ten-key adding machines all day; work that could be done by, say, ONE well programmed computer. Interesting, to say the least...

      really great company

      Pros

great pay scale, chance for advancement is real and fair , some of the store managers work well with your schedule needs. Corporate office holds meeting with different groups from all stores to give everyone a chance to weigh in on needs and concerns of the stores

      Cons

managers get moved to stores that are far from home , assistant managers work many hours for salary. The amount of nighttime employees is to low.

This company has changed for the worse in the past few years

      Pros

Used to a "family run" business who care about their employees. Pay is decent for a drugstore, along with benefits, vacation time off and employee discount.

      Cons

George doesn't care about employees welfare, it's evident in the way he treats employees. People are getting overworked because of budget cuts. Female managers are paid less than male managers but more is expected of them. If someone in the company has a problem with you they will find a way to fire you. It almost seems as though no one in the corporate office knows what they're doing and communication is definitely lacking throughout he company. The technology is glitchy and not up to date. Bartell Drugs is turning into Walgreens.

      Pros

This is a privately and family owned business. They will never be selling out to anyone! Great company for first time jobs.

      Cons

Don't ever plan on moving up inside the corporate office, remember family first! Lots of in fighting in the AP/AR departments mostly due to very poor middle management. Long term employees who can be yes people are desired to any small promotion.
