Toxic workplace

Pros

Well, they did hire me.

Cons

Boss doesn't trust anyone. They lie to employees. They only hire agents through a temp agency and they string them along while dragging their feet. They have constant mass lay-offs. Honestly, this place scarred me. I would not recommend working here. Plenty of other places to work that aren't so disgusting. This place does not promote a healthy work-life balance. They take a real toll on your health.

Great But Challenging Place to Work

Pros

I absolutely love the people I work with. My coworkers are phenomenal and really care about one another. Basic Research is a challenging, fast-paced environment, but I love the challenge and knowing that we really are one of the best companies in the business. There's a lot of variety with this job, because we distribute products for a number of brands and do multiple types of advertising (print, TV, radio, etc.), so that keeps things interesting and helps keep me from getting bored. Most of the managers try hard to offer the employees flexibility so that you can take kids to the doctor or miss a few hours of work for a school program, which is important when you're a parent. They also offer a decent insurance package, good vacation time for long-term employees, and 401(k) match.

Cons

Management can be difficult to deal with. Communication isn't always great. It really is a challenging, fast-paced environment and can definitely be high-stress much of the time.

Run away from this place.

Pros

Honestly, the only good thing about this place is that they aren't too picky when hiring people and I think that is one of the reasons management is failing miserably.

Cons

If the only thing you care for is a paycheck, then this is the place for you. If you want to work for a company that appreciates your efforts, values you as a person, gives you opportunities to contribute, and encourages you to grow in your job; this isn't it. Management constantly does many unethical things that for most people in there is a norm but in other places it would be a huge issue. But since the company's culture and business model is based on lying (as long as it is legal), there is no problem with being unethical. Human Resources is almost non-existent because there are only two people running it, so there are many things not being done that other companies sre doing such as employee performance reviews and formal training. In my department only if you knew the right people you would get a raise or bonus. Management does whatever they want because they feel protected by the huge legal department the company has which defends them from lawsuits.
