I worked at Basic Your Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great locally owned Electronics and Appliance store with a small town atmosphere and top of the line inventory. I was introduced to Apple Computers while working at Basic and that turned out to be a life changing event for me and I consider myself to be so lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to learn how to service and repair such high-end and exceptionally well engineered machines and devices. Making the transition from a PC repair tech to a Macintosh Hardware Specialist was like being promoted from cleaning toilets with a toothbrush to being a dentist. I felt as if I had finally arrived.

    Cons

At the time of my hiring our computer dept was full of top spec computers, PC Gaming Custom Builds and High Resolution PC monitors and to top it off, we were the only store in Monroe that carried and repaired Apple Computers. I was sent to Baton Rouge to become certified as an Authorized Apple ReSeller and Repair Specialist. Upon my return to work I find that my really good buddy and Teacher of all things Macintosh was fired and I was promoted to Computer Dept Manager with a $2 raise. I had never been so sick and proud at the same time before. After about 18 months the store began to downsize and close some departments beginning with the Computer Dept. Other stores began to sell Apple and we were no longer the Best Show in town. I decided to take my chances out on the street than to become an appliance sales/serviceman.

    Advice to Management

Listen to lower dept. managers when they tell you what the customers are in the store looking for.

    Pros

A job that pays the bills, hood people to meet and work with, easy to get hired.

    Cons

Bad pay, no respect, no appreciation for hard working individuals, and no advancement.

    Advice to Management

Not easy for employees to advance to management often. Basically no raises either.

    Pros

Everybody is here to help you and see that you succeed.

    Cons

Working weekends, but they do rotations and that helps big time. That is just part of retail. Get use to it.

    Advice to Management

    There great!!

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Opportunity to grow within rapidly, wonderful benefits. I went from part time to full time to Media Senior in 3 months.

    Cons

Christmas, like in any other retail store is hell even if you are fully staffed. Prepare yourself for along days!

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they are the back bone of the company. Also, why are there so many pointless meetings? It seems we had one every week.

    Pros

    Earning potential.
With the MFG's paying you SPIFFS on top of what you earn you can make a nice living at Basic.
Being able to buy all of the nice electronics and appliances for your home at a good discount.
They really do a good job of listening to their people. It is a privately owned company and you do have some access to the top brass.

    Cons

Work on rotating Sat & Sundays.
Take your day off during the week.
    Store stays open until 9PM.
Store hours are longer through the holidays, as this is when volume dollars of purchases of appliances and electronics are made.
    Got to make that hay.
