I have been working at Bass Pro Shops part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Associate discount for BPS products is 40% off which is generous. -Flexible schedule for student workers. -Mostly great people to work around -You get to talk to customers about fishing, hunting, camping, etc.

    Cons

-Now that there are so many new stores being built the "destination store" mentality has faded. It's becoming more and more like every other retail chain. -The older stores have unaddressed issues with building maintenance and faulty equipment. -Management often allows associates who should be fired to stay past their welcome which upsets the better employees to the point that they leave. -Getting merchandise on the shelf that customers want to buy can be difficult. -Too many Johnny Morris and BPS name brands on the shelf when customers really want the brands they see advertised in professional fishing, hunting, etc. -The company pushes their "gear guard" program as a replacement guarantee on items such as rods and reels yet they take back unprotected items past the return deadline constantly. Even though management does this they still expect you as the associate to talk customers into purchasing this protection. -Corporate level sets sales goals and then doesn't provide the merchandise necessary to achieve those goals. An example of this is when certain merchandise is placed in the sales tab even though many stores don't have it. -No loyalty to senior employees who've been with the company for over a decade or longer. You could be let go at any moment when positions are downsized in spite of the company's perceived growth. All because corporate wants to increase their bottom line. -At this point BPS is making money in spite of itself because they have a great group of knowledgeable people working at the store level and because of the brand they've built in past years. But both of these could fade with time if they continue to take them for granted. Just look at what happened to Sears.

I have been working at Bass Pro Shops part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Awesome atmosphere along with strong leadership. Products are fun. Great customer experience and extreme emphasis in customer service! Great little benefits like cake once a month for birthdays, food provided on big days, shirts provided etc

    Cons

Store seems understaffed at times as well as little training. Most of what you learn is on the fly.

I have been working at Bass Pro Shops for less than a year

    Pros

Good job while your young, if you like fishing or hunting you will enjoy helping people with it. Management tries to be motivational.

    Cons

Just did huge management layoffs, administrators seem very stressed, room to advance but not enough to make an employee to work there long term. Litte room for raises. Worked there for 6 months and started at 9 and now make 9.25.
