I worked at Bass Pro Shops part-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get to see new different fishing lures, as well as a great discount. It's also fun to meet new people that are as serious about fishing as you are.

    Cons

It does get annoying helping people who have no idea at all about fishing over and over again.

I worked at Bass Pro Shops part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some Associates were excellent Employee discounts were good - what kept me there for 6 years

    Cons

Dishonesty and deception from store -level Management. Revolving door - high turnover Low pay Hours and positions will be cut one week - then a few weeks later they will post a hiring fair for new employees. This is most likely an attempt to reduce costs by replacing the few long term employees with new lower paid entry level employees. Ultimately, the customer suffers as there is no real experience base to educate customers on products. Too much emphasis on selling the Capital One Club credit card to customers.

I worked at Bass Pro Shops part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Okay pay if you are a high school student. Discount is 45 % off Bass Pro items. Some customers are nice and share stories with you.

    Cons

Working at the hunting counter has no enforcement of safety. Customers and employees will unsafely hand firearms. Pointing guns at each other. Pulling the trigger at someone. Management does not care in the slightest about safety or illegal gun purchases. I have seen and reported tons of straw purchases that management has overlooked. Almost everyone working here can't afford to buy stuff even with discounts. The worst attendance policy that I have seen in any company. If you call in stick, come in with a doctors note, they will still count it as if you never showed up. The tourist are the rudest customers you will deal with that waste all of your time. Management puts heavy emphasis on credit cards with high APR that most customers do not qualify for. Some employees will outright not work and only sell credit cards all day. Pay is based on favoritism. Leads and managers have half of the answers and will tell you wrong information that will get you in trouble for and they hold no responsibility for it. Extremely high turn over. Most employees will not work more than a year. Zero opportunity for advancement unless management is the same race/ethnicity as you than maybe . DO NOT WORK HERE

I worked at Bass Pro Shops full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very friendly environment. Other associates were interesting and fun to talk to.

    Cons

Management was absolute garbage. Managers would hide out on busy weekends while sales associates did all the work. The Receiving manager was cool, but the rest of the managers were lazy and useless. The firearms specialist was also a ninny and incredibly rude all the time.

I worked at Bass Pro Shops part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Loved hunting and firearm sales. Can be a fun place to work. Decent hours and very flexible. The company seems to communicate well and has many benefits and discounts for the team members

    Cons

Slow times made the shift drag. Slow season makes you want to find another part time gig. Company likes busy work so if the glass is clean and you have nothing to do clean the glass again.

    Pros

Fun working environment. Decent employee discount. Can work in jeans and shirt uniform is provided.

    Cons

I'm sure every location is different. This location has no room for advancement. If your not hired into any management position, more than likely you will not be promoted. Micro managed.

I worked at Bass Pro Shops part-time for less than a year

    Pros

40% off discount was good and co-workers were fun not much else except that

    Cons

Lots of empty promises by management, for example during orientation they mentioned they will almost always hire from within, and there was so much room for advancement but we hardly ever saw that. After all the company wide manager/employee layoffs took place over the summer, moral was down. Management expected us to work 10 times harder and expected us to do jobs that were required of them or a lead, without any compensation or thankfulness. They cut back hours tremendously then wondered why nothing would ever get done. Maybe if management didn't spend so much time in their offices or on their personal cell phones making personal calls right on the sales floor to their doctors, family, friends, etc., maybe tasks would get done in a timely manner. I had so many complains by customers that were bothered by management walking around with their iPhones glued to their ears. Management also has their favorites. They allow them to do whatever it is they want and leave their department to follow them around. They are also big on spending time with associates outside of work at the bar. They don't discipline bad workers and don't support the good ones. They would cut your shift short by at least a half hour if you worked the night shift so beware. So many great employees left or cut their hours because of them. They're extremely rude and think they're above everyone. After we were all sucked into creating a beautiful store they turned on us. All management was fake. The store opened and this fairy tail retail fantasy they were feeding us turned out to be a floozie. You will get hardly anything for hard work so don't think this is your dream job. In regards to customers dealing with management, they will always get what they want. We can tell a customer one thing and the management will spoil them and give them what they want making us, the associate the bad guy. They embarrass us then wonder why we don't go to them for anything. Beware of your time because they have been laying off for going just one minute over your breaks. They terminate immediately with no warning. I see this company shutting down their first stores very soon. In the near future honestly.
