    I worked at Bass Pro Shops part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Customers are fun. Associates are great to work with. They give part time associates vacation pay if they average 20 or more hours a week.

    Cons

    They have pay caps that are very low. If a manager don't like you it's hard to work there they will ask other associates to let them know when you do even the smallest thing wrong so they can write you up. Loyalty means nothing to them. They let leads belittled associates and reward them for doing it. Some managers let the leads make decisions that should only be made by a manager because they are friends. There is 1 lead that harasses associates but the associates are afraid to say anything for fear of retaliation. They need to take a good hard look at what is go no on at this store. I would leave if I had another job. I would not give notice for they are known to let you go before your notice is up.

    Advice to Management

    Take a good hard look at the manager and leads you have get rid of the bad ones and make it a good place to work with out fear. Corporate needs to also look at the higher management in this store as one of them does the same. If he don't like you he will block you are every turn.

    Be more positive. Focus on the good work people do rather than the negative.

    Pros

    Fun working environment. Decent employee discount. Can work in jeans and shirt uniform is provided.

    Cons

    I'm sure every location is different. This location has no room for advancement. If your not hired into any management position, more than likely you will not be promoted. Micro managed.

    Advice to Management

    Praise your GOOD workers, quite picking your own personal Pet Employees for Monthly Recognition. It causes resentment and uncomfortable working conditions.

    Pros

    Love the coworkers.
    I like most of the customers.
    Good discount.
    Decent hours.

    Cons

    Management does not value its employees.
    No training whatsoever, if you make a mistake you get in trouble without even knowing that you made a mistake.
    The store allows customers to steal from them. Yet employees are submitted to checks are the door. They're afraid we are sneaking kayaks in our lunchboxes.

    Advice to Management

    This place is worse than a Trump presidency. You say you value customers, yet it's only customers that you value, all at the expense of the employees.

    Pros

    The people were friendly and the environment and campus were wonderful. Great cafeteria and men's/women's work out areas.

    Cons

    Still using green bar reporting. They are so stuck in the past and will not listen to any ideas of how to make things better. Management is too old-school and keeps to themselves.

    Advice to Management

    Open up to your employees. Let them pitch new ideas to make the company better.

    Pros

    It can be a nice place to work most of the time. Co-workers are generally nice and share many common hobbies related to the store. If customers tell a manager you did a good job you usually get a gift card.

    Cons

    Pay raises are minimal there is absolutely zero reward pay wise for more product knowledge than other or being able to work multiple departments. Employees that are hired after you with no product knowledge or experience end up not only making more than you starting out but more money overall. Management can vary from department to department but generally do not have any form of higher education. The amount of redundancy can drive you insane.

    Cons

    I have never experienced so much sexual harassment, and racism as I did here. It's a "good old boys" mentality, and the company knows that and praises it. Sexual harassment claims against women are swept under the rug by hr, and the perpetrators side was always taken.

    Listen to your employees concerns

    Pros

    The company is a great place to work for fisherman and hunters.

    Cons

    Experience was dissapointing due to cronyism that takes place. Company cutting on repairs to stores, raises, bonuses. 2 years in a row of reorganization cutbacks in mgmt giving no sense of security.

    Advice to Management

    Have feedback from bottom up with a group that will give candid feedback not what you just want to hear. So many are afraid to give honest feedback. Have senior or mid level mgrs actually visit the stores and talk to the team and mgmt.
