    Awesome workplace

    Pros

Friendly staff, amazing management, overall a great place to work for. Lots of events going on, and a lot of friendly interaction with our customers.

    Cons

The only con was that credit card sign ups were pushed and focused on way too much, and sometimes this would lose respect from customers.

    Pros

Nice to work with people who love the outdoors.

    Cons

Corporate Management is terrible. Very poor communication and unwillingness to visit stores and see problems in person. Insane amount of pressure to sell credit cards. Product knowledge is valued much less than your willingness to harass and chase down customers to sign up for the company credit card.

    Pros

Terrific employee discounts...great if you are hunter, fisherman, RV or boater, etc. Fun group to work with and easy to sell the products if you know the merchandise.

    Cons

Pressure on customer contact people to sell the credit card.

    All about the credit card

Nov 17, 2021 - Customer Service Team Lead in East Peoria, IL
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The best reason was the employee discount.

    Cons

The way they do the scheduling is ridiculous. Close one night , open the next. Also, on Sundays, the Customer Serrvice Team Lead was scheduled open to close and had no other team lead scheduled. The most important thing to the company is to get customers to sign up for the credit card. Employees that were the best at it, were shady at telling people the truth about the credit card. Also, the cashiers are hounded to get phone numbers and if they don't, they get talked down to.

It’s retail. It has its ups and downs.

    Pros

I love most of my coworkers, and the majority of guests. I have never felt more safe when working with the public.

    Cons

I hate that they put such a high priority on employees selling the credit card to guests. They pretty much make you force it onto people. Communication is a miss but then again isn’t it always a miss in most places?

I don't know how this company gets good reviews from Forbes. It's a dying industry.

    Pros

Pretty decent employee discount on store brand items

    Cons

Entire store revolves around selling store credit cards, and they aren't that good of a deal. You have to be good at pushing that to succeed. It's pushed so much that you'll think you work for a bank rather than a sporting goods company. But if you are good at it, you'll be trapped in your position and never considered for promotion. There's high turnover among most of the available positions.
