Great place to work for outdoorsperson. All about great customer service. Friendly associates and great associate recognition program by their HR Department.

Pay and benefits are deplorable add that to the rotten customers it attracts and Bass Pro takes a big hit on the overall rating.

Great to learn the ropes

Great cafeteria at good prices; Free Gym in building (though needs a facelift); good opportunity to learn on the job
Cons
Pay is below industry average and way below the levels of any other billion dollar company. A lot of old-school thinking with employees who have been doing the same thing for 20+ years. Difficult to change a culture.

Good benefits but not a good career path

It can be a nice place to work most of the time. Co-workers are generally nice and share many common hobbies related to the store. If customers tell a manager you did a good job you usually get a gift card.
Cons
Pay raises are minimal there is absolutely zero reward pay wise for more product knowledge than other or being able to work multiple departments. Employees that are hired after you with no product knowledge or experience end up not only making more than you starting out but more money overall. Management can vary from department to department but generally do not have any form of higher education. The amount of redundancy can drive you insane.

Flexible schedule, Willingness to teach you about certain programs and events that were going on.
Cons
Pay was something that could have been better and managers were always distant from certain associates

Pros
Atmosphere is awesome. Upper management seems to care about all of the associates. My fellow associates treat me like family. I've never experienced this type of great working atmosphere in my entire career. The employee discounts that is offered to us is the best I've ever seen. The benefits are decent and are affordable.
Cons
The pay in my opinion is extreamly low if you compare my position to other local retail businesses in the area. Fortunately there has been so many good experiences so far that I'm willing to ride it out for a while with hopes of a promotion and/or a raise.

Fun Atmosphere if you are a people person and love the OUTDOORS!

Family atmosphere, friendly long time associates, most have been there many years, they are very helpful. Excellent employee discounts. Very little micro management that I have seen in my years there. A good solid Store Manager, seems to really care about the common employee.
Cons
Some managers pay very little if any attention to the few employee's who work very hard and stay for years. Younger short term employee's who fail to 'get it' and never seem to be interested in doing much work get all the accolades and awards from management, hard to figure. This does not imply that all department managers operate this way, most are great bosses, and a pleasure to work for, a few are very hard to communicate with due to personal issues I suppose. Its retail, and a high pace environment, so its sink or swim, I know pay will be low as it is in most retail.
