I worked at Bass Underwriters full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment, laid back dress code, bullpen style layout for the assistants makes conversation inclusive and learning easier.
The underwriters have a more private set up.

    Cons

Low pay (but if you work hard, you move up), training lacks (but you can ALWAYS ask questions), workload under certain underwriters is crippling (but you learn a lot).
Once your an underwriter, you make your own future.

    Advice to Management

Take note of these reviews and PLEASE increase pay (at least for those that are obviously putting forth effort).
Maybe relax a bit on the hiring of assistants that are obviously under-qualified (it's a slap in the face to those that are qualified and work hard for the same pay).

I worked at Bass Underwriters full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people are in their twenties and thirties so it makes the office environment laid back or fun.

    Cons

Basically it's about who you know not what you know at Bass underwriters. If you are related to or friends with an underwriter then that's the only way you will have success. There's absolutely no training and they get mad if you ask questions. There's a lack of communication and everyone is delusional and thinks their perfect when really we are all human and make simple mistakes, it's a computer job so all mistakes are fixable! If you make a mistake at bass then they will talk behind your back when in reality they all mess up everyday!

    Advice to Management

Communicate and take time to train people even if it's just an hour a day! Don't keep acting stuck up because everyone has to start from the bottom!

I have been working at Bass Underwriters full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people work there, you feel a sense of community.
The more you can accomplish, the higher you can move in the company.
You can switch department to better align your career goals.
Salary is decent with a bonus at the end of the year (sometimes 2 bonuses).
The Execs are Christians, they have Bible studies for men and women. It's hard to see people praying and glorifying God at every company events, especially in this line of business.
They have a nice benefits with 401K

    Cons

Difficult to come to a decision, and are often last minute, which put pressure on the employees.
Company is growing too fast, load increase but not enough employees.

    Advice to Management

The management team is doing a great job.

    Pros

Bass is one of the best companies to work for. There is a lot of room for growth. You can start off as a processor and work your way up to the top. Management acknowledges hard work and a good attitude. They offer opportunities to further your education while you build your book and direct you on the fast tract to promotion. All you have to do is show up, learn, and eagerly pursue growth. You obviously need to be competitively driven as Bass is constantly growing. Lots of people coming in and they all want to be part of the growth.

    Cons

In truth, pay is pretty good especially when you get into a management or UW position. For those that are processors and UWA with a family, the health plan can be a little daunting. Also, due to the growth we have employees that come in that are just looking for job and not a career. This results in people not fitting in with the identity of Bass because those that become a part of Bass are fully committed. If your looking to clock in and out and just get a pay check, your in the wrong spot. It's all about building a relationship with your business partners and co-workers. That relationship will be invaluable for your future career.

    Advice to Management

Keep helping us grow and letting us know you believe in us. Keep searching for those diamonds in the rough employees willing to put in all they have. Surround yourself with more knowledge & accountability. Keep pushing technology and marketing.

Bass is an amazing company to work for. They treat all employees like family and have excellent benefits. The owners of the company are very approachable and open minded. I only wish I would have started my career here earlier.

    Cons

No major cons I can think of

    Advice to Management

No advice at this time. Very happy

    Pros

This company has a unique culture, making it feel like you are all family. The owners are very hands on with the business, and truly value the people working for them. They have great benefits and a "work hard, play hard" motto.

    Cons

The only con is really that the growth is happening rapidly so growing pains are felt in all areas, but on the flip side it is really rewarding to be a part of the growth!

I worked at Bass Underwriters full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Dress code, you can wear whatever.

    Cons

Severely underpaid, overworked, extremely unprofessional work environment. Management could care less about your position or future with the company, you are there to help them reach their goals, not your own.

    Advice to Management

Management is a joke! They are cocky and rude, and don't appreciate their agents or assistants. Most of them don't have a clue what they are doing..advice would be to get off of your high horse and treat people with respect. Quit hiring glorified assistants.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Bass Underwriters full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay after promotion. You can wear sandals and basketball shorts everyday to work. Free coffee in the break room

    Cons

This company is a joke and management remains delusional. The assistants are overworked and severely underpaid. If you are okay with starting a book of business from scratch, managing your bosses book while making poverty level income than this is the company for you. On the other hand you might be one of the lucky few that gets a book handed to them. The salary alone drives away quality talent resulting in an office full of subpar underwriters/producers. If you stick around long enough (4-5) years they might eventually promote you just be ready to be miserable and broke

    Advice to Management

Stop being greedy and pay your employees what they deserve. We all know you probably will never take advise and make any real changes. Which is why you will never grown and continue to see great employees move on to bigger and better companies.

    Pros

Very high pace and you can gain a lot of experience if you choose to. Deal with a lot of people.

    Cons

low pay and no room for growth. Just something to put on your resume. Very overwhelming and stressful. There is absolutely no training. You will have to learn on your own.

    Advice to Management

Have some respect for your employees If you want them sticking around. Company really needs to start paying paying more or at least what other companies pay. Assistants feel unappreciated and tend to look for work somewhere else instead of staying because management will not meet their needs.
