I worked at Bauer Media full-time

    Pros

The only pros are free pizza and ice cream on Fridays.

    Cons

It was a terrible experience working at this company. I would never recommend it to anyone. Everyone is overworked and not happy here. I have also heard horror stories from almost everyone that works here. We are treated poorly and it is not acceptable.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the higher up people you have in power. They don't know what they are doing, and don't know how to manage a team.

I worked at Bauer Media full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay and free food sometimes

    Cons

Cons? Where the heck do I start. From the moment you start working here, you'll notice how disorganzied this company is. Senior level editors are completely unqualified and disorganized, and it makes it impossible to do any of the work you are assigned. I spent most of my first 6 months here crying because I would physically dread commuting into NJ for a job I hated so much. When you try to tell top editors about any problems with workflow and the like, they'll just laugh in your face and tell you that it's a "learning experience" and you should be grateful. There is no room for creativity at any of the magazines here and I promise you will actually become a worse writer the longer you stay here. Most of the magazines are controlled by advertisers and insane editors-in-chief. Don't be sucked in by high pay; find a better job, for your sanity and well-being.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone and start over. There is literally no other way to fix this terrible company.

    Pros

I love being able to create content, work with people I really like, and have the opportunities Bauer presents. its flexible and its fancy. My team makes my job unique and fun. I realize my experience may be different than others, but i love my job.

    Cons

Its always a challenge to get paychecks on time. Sometimes it takes 6 weeks to get paid. The infrastructure is a bit fractured and you need to have your internal relationships in tact.

    Advice to Management

Speed up payment and don't cut pay. You've been #1 for a reason. You have to pay to keep the people that help get you there. Reward loyalty.

I worked at Bauer Media full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Should have been a dream come true job. The teen scene and culture should make for a fun and exciting job. Some perks of going to events. Pay is decent, but not enough to deal with the day-to-day drama.

    Cons

-Those in charge are unqualified and dare I say, sometimes incompetent.
-Listening to the staff below them about what could be good for the magazines is a problem because it puts in question their authority.
-While copying from Wikipedia can get you kicked out of college, it's apparently acceptable here.
-Doing something the RIGHT way is frowned upon if it takes too much work and time.
-High school like environment. No boundaries/professional setting to talk about private matters.
-If you can't read minds, this isn't the place for you.
    -HR is highly unprofessional.
-New ideas are not accepted, because it's "not how they do things."
-Changes are made to copy that make NO SENSE and you are forced to go along with it because "they said so."
-Somehow attracts solid, smart employees yet has NO idea how to manage them, create a working atmosphere or reward anyone who goes the extra mile.
-In conclusion, a nightmare and will literally induce high blood pressure.

    Advice to Management

-Consider putting people in place that are actually qualified for their positions if they are running departments.
-Hold those in charge responsible for DROPPING readership. Don't complain to them so they in turn take it out in the entire rest of the staff.
