I worked at Baxter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Room for promotion and advancement. If you put in long hours and fill your plate it is recognized. Lots of room for growth. Promotions happen quick but you have to be very competitive.

    Cons

No work life balance. Baxter does not create an environment that fosters life outside of work. Very competitive amongst departments and within departments. Does not foster teamwork since the environment is so competitive.

    Advice to Management

Happy employees work harder. I would encourage Management to recognize that talent needs life outside of work. Evaluate employees based on their work not how much running around they do just to keep their plate from spilling over.

I worked at Baxter full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great professional people who care about what they do. Ability to get involved in different projects and, if you want to, make a difference

    Cons

Very difficult to move up beyond a senior manager role. Director level is very difficult to achieve.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the degree but examine what your internal people have done before going outside.

    Pros

Working toward a new culture of flexibility and trust.

    Cons

Slow to change, company bogged down with corporate red-tape and policies. Constant grumbling about new flexible environment from leadership - though they are forced to embrace the new culture.

    Advice to Management

New CEO working to improve culture but speaking up to change things is still considered a no no - more leadership roles need to change to fix this culture.

    Pros

Company's mission is saving and sustaining life. Flexible work hours, work from home if required. Good competitive salaries.

    Cons

Work life balance may not be always great.
Company is going through lot of layoffs after Baxter- Baxalta split.
Employees were not transferred to Baxalta in required proportion.
I am expecting this layoff cycle to continue for some time.

    Pros

Good benefits, reasonable work hours, important mission, lifesaving products
Would recommend working here to others, especially at the early to middle career level.

    Cons

A lot of change recently, but the culture is moving in the right direction. Senior leadership is a little weak, but this also seems to be improving.

    Advice to Management

Be open minded, support your employees during this time of change, make good decisions based on facts and data
