I have been working at Baxter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay for the area, potentially more in neighboring cities.
Low cost of living in Marion.
    Stock option and 401K available.
Yearly bonus based on site's performance.

    Cons

Very little to do in Marion itself.
People who have been here years have a "this is how things are done, just do it this way". Push against any type of culture change and improvements
Overload workers with responsibilities as opposed to hiring more resources

    I worked at Baxter full-time

    Pros

Prepares you for the worst situations

    Cons

    Poor management
    Unrealistic goals
Always in trouble with the FDA

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like humans. A lot of great talent has left because of the way the new management has been treating their employees.

I have been working at Baxter (More than a year)

    Pros

The amount of openings allow flexibility in what experience you can get. If you are interested in teaching this allows ample opportunity.

    Cons

Management tends to get in its own way when it comes to getting things done quickly. Work environment is tense due to the increased departure of employees. The culture is lacking the education it needs.

    Advice to Management

Staff appropriately. Work to maintain talent.

I worked at Baxter full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

For many years Baxter was a flexible company with telecommuting options, part time options, job share options. The pay was equal to what you would find at a competing company. The management was flexible and nice. There were many opportunities to do work outside of your normal job.You could always take classes and learn something new.

    Cons

In recent years the management has become very strict. There is no more working at home. It is hard to even leave to go to a doctor appointment and even making a doctor appointment on the phone is impossible. It is more than an uncomfortable place to work. You can never work enough hours and when they lay people off, they expect the people that are left behind to keep up as if there is no difference. Much of the work is being outsourced to India and they expect everyone to have a good attitude about that as they are doing the transitions to give their jobs away!

    Advice to Management

I have worked here at Baxter for 31 years and the atmosphere is awful! There is no happiness in the job at all. I am not sure if it is just in our department PSE - Analytical Center of Excellence)

I have been working at Baxter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits and pay are great. There's a lot of flexibility being salaried. There's a lot of really smart people I get to work with.

    Cons

We're becoming "lean"... which can be good if it's done right. But, it's being done wrong. The people implementing the tools don't understand them. They don't get Valuestream mapping, Kaizen, LDI, none of it. It's all a perversion of what the TPS system really is. What's worse, there's a severe lack of leadership, and too much onus is put on the little guy. If they keep this up, they'll be in trouble.

    Advice to Management

Get people who know how to implement lean. Don't just use tools because "we're a lean organization now, so we HAVE to use this stuff". USE WHAT WORKS. And most importantly, if you want to change the culture, you don't just up and announce it - you enact it. It starts from the top, and I haven't seen it yet.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People are great and you can find some great opportunities. Fairly stable company with good prospects. Has survived a long time and is a leader in the industry.

    Cons

Vacation is not negotiated internally. Transfer between roles within the company is not as advantageous as leaving and coming back.
