I worked at Baxter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Huge opportunity for career pathing due to size. In an industry that will never go away.

    Cons

I was hired for one position and excelled. A new manager put me into a new position and I was put on performance warning

    Advice to Management

Make sure when you hire a full time position that all of management agrees that position is necessary.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The finance organization at Baxter is very strong. We provide decision support for many aspects of the business and our voice is always heard and used in decision making. The tools used in finance are up to date and user friendly.

    Cons

Sometimes hard to become a mangaer as there are many Sr. Analysts but not as many manager roles...this is common at all companies however.

    Advice to Management

No advice to management at this time.

    Pros

I learned a lot while I was at Baxter, both how to do things and not to do things. I think that it was a great stepping stone in my career, but not a company to grow with long term.

    Cons

If you are not part of their Finance Development Program, your interviews for promotions will be courtesy only.

I worked at Baxter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment, work life balance, laid back environment. Everyone is very nice and friendly. Quiet work environment, nice desks, cubical and brand new building in the Mississauga location.

    Cons

They are drastically cutting costs, lots of people moving in & out of the company. They cut a few positions and have combined roles to save $$. They don't want to add more headcount and are cutting headcounts instead. Everything have to go through approval from the US for hiring and adding people. They stingy with their hiring and love to hire people on contract to save on costs!

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting cost and add headcount. Stop hiring more and more contractors but instead try to retain current staff. Hiring contractors = quality is lower and high turnover!

    Pros

The people are friendly, and the company cares a lot about work/life balance. Compensation and benefits are excellent as compared to similar companies. Upper management is very accessible to the workforce. Many employees have worked at Baxter for many years which shows that the culture promotes careers within the company, and workers who stay are generally satisfied with the job and the lifestyle, etc. Healthcare is a generally stable industy and very attractive in times when the markets are unstable. All in all, it is a corporation that makes healthcare products, pays decently well, and tends to keep people around.

    Cons

Although the social networks within the company are strong, Baxter oftentimes resembles high school with cliques and favorites. This is especially prevelent within the lower ranks and the development programs for first time hires. Those employees that are picked to be "favorites" often stay for many years and have to struggle within the terrible promotion structure. Baxter is a very conservative company with little excitement. If you are looking for someone to discuss market news with, this is not the place for you. Most people are concerned with punching the clock and then hurrying home to their respective suburbs. I got the impression that most of the people cared little about their jobs and stayed for many years because they were to lazy or scared to look into anything else.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to have more unique thoughts.
