    Pros

Very well run non-profit firm. I'm confident Bay Legal will be around for years to come. It's great to have such a large organization because clients have overlapping issues. It's nice to be able to reach out to a colleague and get a quick assessment of an area of law I don't practice.

    Cons

We use some very dated technology that makes tracking out client interactions inefficient. They really need a lawyer with some IT skills to sort it all out, but that can't afford that in this market.

    Advice to Management

Make time to update computer programs and knowledge storage systems.

I have been working at Bay Area Legal Aid as an intern

    Pros

Small office (other than Oakland and SF)
Close working relationship with supervising attorney allowed for great feedback and mentorship
    Opportunities to observe in court
Wide array of projects such that there was little repetition in work
very apparent that the attorneys and advocates are passionate about their work and clients

    Cons

Staff attorneys seemed stretched to their limits and could use more resources. Managing attorney was a little unapproachable.

Great working environment and the scope to learn is tremendous! The staff is lovely and very helpful, always willing to give you new assignments if you ask and want to ensure that you get as much out of the experience as you want.

    Cons

Depending on your department sometimes the work can be slow to trickle in, but if you ask most likely they will find you something.

    Pros

People are helpful, fun place to work, and great place to feel good about yourself because of the people you help.

I worked at Bay Area Legal Aid as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone was really friendly and went out of their way to help. Supervisors went out of their way to give me challenging projects and teach me things. Hours were flexible.

    Cons

Sometimes there wasn't enough work and I was sent home for the day while having to pay for gas. Most of the work was monotonous or too easy..
