    Pros

    Some flexibility, ok starting salaries.

Continual layoffs, turnover, and restructuring make for constant chaos.

I worked at Bay Area News Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Base salary for Account Execs are good. Compensation is good. Very up to date with the tools they provide you to prospect and create presentations. Lots of templates. Coworkers were great. Learned a lot about digital ads and SEM/SEO. Great brand recognition and support group.

    Cons

Management is very impatient. They have soooo many products and services to offer and they expect you to learn and come up with solutions for clients immediately. They micro manage. Lots of politics involved. Company was transitioning from paper to digital so lots of new services were introduced. Training was thorough but they mix up the roles in the training so you learn a lot of things you tend to not use after.

    Pros

Flexible work hours (depending on job).

    Cons

Unable/unwilling to make much-needed changes to grow company, poorly managed, average benefits

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to bring the newspaper industry into the 21st century. Change can be good.

    Pros

Immediate colleagues are hard-working decent people

    Cons

The quality of the paper is terrible, extremely poor managed. The hedge fund that runs the place is only concerned about squeezing out more and more profit

    Advice to Management

    Bring in some competent managers

    Pros

Earning a paycheck and experience overall. Writing and journalism positions in editorial.

    Cons

Micro-management without the ability to provide proper leadership skills resulting in extremely low workplace morale and a highly toxic workplace environment. Although based in Silicon Valley, this company lacks true forward thinking and shouldn't be regarded as such with products that merely mimic competitors. Culture is non-existent. Owned by a private equity firm.

    Advice to Management

Stop making lazy decisions, your employees suffer for it. Take a good hard look in the mirror.

    Pros

There's nothing positive to say about this horrible place. Save yourself from making a terrible decision. The people working at the top of he chain don't give a damn about anyone in the company! The culture sucks and the employees seem to be drowning in misery.

    Cons

Managers are way too micromanaging, they don't trust their employees, and lack professionalism. If you see any positive comments it's probably the recruiter trying to get good company reviews. Don't be FOOLED.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees the autonomy so they feel comfortable and happy to do their work. Trust your employees, be more human, and treat your employees with respect and learn how to show appreciation.
