I have been working at Bay State College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location, Able to directly facilitate students success

    Cons

Some co-workers lack the ability to communicate, making other people's job much difficult.

    Advice to Management

Invest more into students and employees. They should also work on student's work study position abilities. They should be treated as an actual part-time employee rather than ignored as an employee.

I worked at Bay State College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Team oriented, clear goals were established by management. Events, helping students and families with the college admissions process. Small college easier to spend more individualized time with students.

    Cons

Growth is limited, with being a small college. If you don't want to work for a profit college then this isn't the company for you.

    Advice to Management

My manager was great before I left!

I have been working at Bay State College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not much at the moment. BSC used to have a family feel and used to genuinely care for employees.

    Cons

Nepotistic, money-hungry group of people that are making decisions to protect themselves, rather than protecting the students they are serving. Upper management is making hasty decisions to protect their own salary. Want to get promoted or move into other positions within the college? Just make sure that you connect with the right people and you will be fine - there is no need to actually have experience for what you are doing. It's amazing to see the turnover that is starting to increase due to these factors. Many of us are just waiting for these negative changes to start impacting our departments as well.

Students face significant costs for programs that can easily be studied for much less at another institution. Definitely turning into a serious for-profit college as opposed to a for-profit that many students and families do not realize is a for-profit. Students should beware before they are suckered in.

    Advice to Management

Clean house at the executive level and bring on actual professionals with experience in the fields that they represent.

    Pros

this is a small college where you get to know everyone well, both faculty and students alike. Urban location in a fashionable area.

    Cons

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Bay State College full-time

    Pros

Great location in Boston - right in the Back Bay and close to MBTA, restaurants, shops, etc.

    Cons

Bay State is run like a traditional for-profit college. All the top management seems to care about is revenue and profit. It is run much more like a corporation, and not a college. There is constant stress that a waive of layoffs are coming and this completely destroys the morale of everyone on campus. For this reason, there is near-constant turnover, especially in admissions and from adjuncts, who teach the majority of the courses (there are few full-time professors). Many staff members have to juggle numerous tasks that are irrelevant to their position. There is also disastrous miscommunication from department-to-department which can make cross-checking processes very frustrating. The overall culture of BSC is very negative.

    Advice to Management

Lose the for-profit mentality and standards of operation, which are decades old. Boost morale by stopping the threats and negative e-mails. The entire culture of BSC needs to change in order for happiness and satisfaction to be introduced.
