I worked at Bayer (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and pay. Tuition reimbursements and good co-workers. As a research scientist workload is based on projects and the more productive you are the greater the bonus for the department. Extra perks is great bonus packages. Bayer itself, on its own, was a great place to work until the merger with Merck consumer health and this changed everything.

    Cons

Fast pace environment and if you have a wrong director, it means your career is doomed. Due to an acquisition of Merck consumer products layoffs were expected. Too many expectations to bring new products to market but most don't make it.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate all employees in making decisions and listen more to the staff...

    Pros

Overall is very stable company and the great brands provide that stability. Only pressure is how much you place upon yourself. Good benefits.

    Cons

Lacking strategic direction. 'Good old boy company'. Make sure your opinions match senior leaders.

    Advice to Management

Great people do need motivation and expect to see leaders take risks before they are willing to take them.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Bayer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ok life style as a consultant
Occasionally there might be some interesting projects
90% international since no American will take the job

    Cons

This is a place you can see text-book examples of horrible management team:
Insecure, inapt, excel only in office politic, no patience, treats lower rankings with no respect for anything, loves bullying only the lower ranking people while ass-kissing the higher rankings. The way how it is run here brings negative surprise everyday, and it is quite eye-opening.
If one survives here, he is prepared for the worst type of politics and bad management.

    Advice to Management

If H1B was never a issue, 70% of the ppl will be gone within 3 months. Just an heads-up.

    Pros

Great working environment and great people. Your question will never go unanswered and you will definitely learn. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Wished there was more hands on work.

    Advice to Management

Work hard and it won't go unnoticed.

I worked at Bayer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good compared to other Pharma company.

    Cons

Too much politics. They hire only friends in their group. HR don't care they created so many layers that complain doesn't get anywhere.

    Advice to Management

HR should look in to issues when employee complains instead creating more HR people structure to handle problems.

    Pros

The people are about as nice as you'll find anywhere, the products are usually in the top 3 per category, its a very comfortable environment where everyone is treated with respect.

    Cons

People don't leave often so growth opportunities are limited, particularly once you reach a certain mgt level. Its a very conservative company, so out of the box thinking is limited. Its a great place to work if you are a woman with a good head on your shoulders, as mgt is EAGER to advance women these days.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, you are doing a great job. Keep looking for rotational opportunities for your employees, strongly encourage (force) employees to broaden their experiences.

    Pros

Great pay, good culture, good brands, good benefits

    Cons

Sr management at CC is lacking leadership abilities. Risk taking is very low. Takes forever and a dozen people to make a decision.

    Advice to Management

Take some risks and make decisions. Don't pawn the accountability and risk off to five different people.
