I have been working at Bayer full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A company where everyone really cares about their colleagues and about the role Bayer plays in making life better for people, plants and animals worldwide. Innovation goes to the heart of the business and there is always a questioning of how we can do things differently to improve the way we work and the way we can serve our customers better. This can be tiring, but exhilarating. We all have a passion for doing things right and for being the best life sciences company in the UK.

    Cons

The level of empowerment can be bureaucratic, with many people getting involved in changes and implementing new systems. It means that everyone has a voice and the feeling that they influence major decisions, but it means that things can take a lot longer. Sometimes you just want the company to get on with it.

    Advice to Management

Break down the silos between the different parts of the company. We can achieve so much more if wee just reach out to others and pool resources.

    Pros

    Large organisation
    Good bonus schemes
    Flexible working
    Good job security

    Cons

Employees seem to lack ambition and are either happy with where they are in their careers or have no way of moving up/on.

    Advice to Management

Less box checking and more time spent doing work that matters

I worked at Bayer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People and company ethics were first class. The company does look after the employees very well.

    Cons

Lack of proactive training and development. You are left on your own to develop most of the career time. Although everyone need to take their own responsibility on person develop, however, input from senior management on career direction would be very valuable.

    Advice to Management

Speed up the "reduction of complexity" drive, especially on the pharma side. Probably need to be more open minded, take some risks and be a market drive force...

    Pros

    Well respected by customers.
    Strong history to the company.
Has some very interesting drugs in the pipeline, providing the marketing background is done before launch and not after.

    Cons

Constant change in structure meant that there was a regular look over the shoulder to check what is coming. Difficult to plan for the future when the route to the destination kept changing.

Amateurish in the approach to what could/should have been big pharmaceutical brands.

Thinks is a big pharma company but acts like a small one.

    Advice to Management

Act on the feedback taken every year from staff surveys and don't just make it a paper exercise that is presented back and stuck in a drawer somewhere.
