I have been working at Bayer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A good place to get your career started.

You will learn very fast how to "CYA."

You will experience the true meaning of what is corporate dysfunctionality.

    Cons

The management is really bad, they are very delusional and they love to believe they are in the right.

There is no real development, everything about development is smoke and mirrors.

HR is not there to help you, they are there to provide legal protection to the management.

Only the "Golden Children" get promotions or raises, everyone else gets Kool-Aid, and the rewards system, rewards the golden children for doing their jobs.

    Advice to Management

You should really understand the employee survey, don't cherry pick the items, but really understand what the employees are saying.

    I worked at Bayer full-time

    Pros

Depending on the division, colleagues are cordial.

    Cons

Current downsizing, too many politics, so many lies, no trust, not respected in industry, inability to differentiate different markets, nothing in the pipeline, nothing.

    Advice to Management

COMMUNICATE!!! Take a class on that, it's pretty important. DO NOT turn the other way when company policies and laws are being broken, change the incentive plan to one that is fair and doesn't make the employee have to pay back.

I have been working at Bayer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Vacation time, benefits, cafeteria food, lots of TVs so easy to keep up with the news, clean bathrooms, good EHS staff

    Cons

Upper managers only concerned with what will make themselves look good at any cost.
    Painfully obvious favoritism and cronyism.
No regard for personal with certain types disabilities.
Pay raises below cost of leaving increase.
    No work home life balance.

    Advice to Management

Executive board needs to clean out management from the director level and down and start over.
Training management on how to deal with employees with mental disabilities.

I worked at Bayer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Pay, Interesting product,
    High tech field, that's it

    Cons

    Toxic work environment;
management is run by bullies who harrass their own team; top performers are leaving and what is left is cutthroat management who isn't concerned about the company but their own political agenda

    Advice to Management

Get new management at the Pittsburgh facility. Look who has been there in the same position for years and is still riding on accomplishments that they did over 7 years ago. Also, look at employees who are constantly blaining other departments but doesn't show any indication of effort to resolve their issues other than complain. These people make it toxic. Also new by management that listens to employees and gets rid of managers who have a high employee turnover rate and high complaints.

    Good benefits and compensation packet.
    Excellent workers.
    Great product.

    Cons

    Poor upper management
    No job stability...frequent layoffs
    Overuse of temporary workers

    Advice to Management

Take responsibility for your decisions and failures.

  6. "Burnout City"

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Knowing that you can actually stay at Bayer for 50 years and retire there . You can get by performing below your level and hire temps to do your job and then fire them when management starts investigation what you do daily . This is a company where no urgency is exercised Among full
Time employees they all protect one another and temps are simply throw aways.

    Cons

Well they will strip contractors of any respect and or esteem they might have had. No chance of being permanent is given unless you land in a department that does in fact practice Bayer core values . Humiliation is something Bayer uses to keep contractors in check . Roles with visibly are rarely given especially if you are hired to keep a department afloat. There is no true role to describe wearing multiple hats but the biggest con of all is being harassed daily and the harasser mainly FTE staff feels it's well deserved .

    Advice to Management

Not sure if higher managers even care because some of them choose not to participate in meetings and actual activities below them.

    Pros

    Ummm.........? The pay, I guess.

    Cons

HORRIBLE culture. When I have to spend time meeting with colleagues to discuss how we are being bullied by our manager, it's not a good culture. Went to HR and they did nothing. So we left the company to pursue a less toxic environment. Life is too short.

    Advice to Management

    Get a grip.
