I have been working at Bayfront Health full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

At one time Bayfront provided excellent opportunities to young RNs. To this day it is still a good place to learn as they are a trauma center and support numerous specialties. However, most of the benefits for young nurses have eroded to nothing due to cost cutting (i.e. the earn as you learn program is no more). The only positives are that you can learn a lot due to the diverse patient population available and... that the schedule is flexible, but both of these are true of most hospital settings.

    Cons

The climate for the nursing staff has become downright hostile. Upper management is abusive in their handling of staff. Nurses are routinely faced with patient loads that are absurdly higher than accepted safe levels. Intensive care unit nurses are tripled routinely. Floor nurses have 8 or 9 patients. Nurses are floated outside of their specialty without concern, compassion, or support. The hospital refuses to... use agency nurses to fill staffing gaps. They would rather save a few dollars and have a patient die or a nurse lose their license than they would occasionally pay an agency nurse to bring staffing to safe levels.

    Advice to Management

Have a heart. You employ hundreds (thousands?) of college educated professionals who have given you their all for years. Fix the pay scale. Fill the staffing gaps. It is becoming a jungle in there.
