I have been working at Baylor Scott & White Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lot of opportunity to grow, has a nursing residency program.

    Cons

If you are a minority, you will definitely get treated differently. You are ordered to volunteer for multiple committees, manager fail to realize that some of the nurses have a life. Managers also fail to realize that when they make the work schedule it conflicts with the council and committee meetings. It's hard for a floor nurse to leave her/his floor to go to meetings. Too many committees starting from the top, not starting from the front line staff. Not many nurses are interested because they are expected or told to join rather they get a choice. Nurses can easily be burnt out, and pay is cheap.

    Advice to Management

Stop bullying. Be picky at choosing at who the charge nurses are going to be on the unit. It's simple. If the outcome does not meet expectation of the unit then remove them. Don't waste time with charge nurses who cause trouble to the unit. Many nurses loose faith in their leaders at judging the character of their charge nurses. Recognize those who dearly work hard and show outcomes. Everyone with an RN behind their name including educators, managers, directors should work one day a month at front line to understand what a front line nurse goes through each day. They need to take on the same workload as everyone else, not be given easy patients to care for just because they are the leaders. This would solve short staffing. Respect and trust can be establish when leaders roll up their sleeves too. Stop moving RNs around the hospital, when you got managers and directors that can do the job too. If a unit is short staff, then ALL leaders need to step up. Stop putting more burden on your front line nurse to carry out multiple time wasted task which lead to frustration and confusion.

    Pros

Great team environment, supportive physicians, great place to learn as a new nurse, salary has improved from the push for magnet status. Great place to work overall.

    Cons

High nursing turnover, staffing ebbs, and flows with periods of well-staffed units and understaffed units.

I worked at Baylor Scott & White Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not much to talk about... none.

    Cons

Poor managment model, hierarchy makes sure that you never get appreciated for your work. No scope of a pay raise. Your manger who reviews your work is some one who has no idea what you are doing and what you do.

Over all this is not the place to start your career.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate what your employees do.

Dont let a random person evaluate how employee is performing let the direct manager assess them.

I worked at Baylor Scott & White Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome company to work for. I had an awesome team I was a part of. Pay was good but could have been better for all that was done, benefits okay but got bad once Baylor bought out Scott and White. The top of the chain of command are awesome individuals. The ideals and code of ethic is awesome.

    Cons

They higher management likes to play games with lower totem of employees. They say they are a non retaliation with open door policy but will retaliate against you once you speak up. Management is very buddy buddy and will keep lazy people because they are friends over hard working employees if they don't like you.

    Advice to Management

Train them more frequently so they know how to manage their jobs properly. Test and evaluate them more throughly so if they do not meet the requirements for the job they need to be demoted. When speaking to the team they fall under and they speak freely about issues with their managers, do not fire the employee, evaluate and review management to confirm why the employees are not happy with them. There is a hierarchy of employees for a reason. Happy from the bottom greatness with progress to the top.

I have been working at Baylor Scott & White Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

We have a few benefits that are notable. Free lunches once a month.

    Cons

Won't give current employees a chance to advance in Supply Chain Services.

    Advice to Management

Why can you not give the folks already working for you a damn chance instead of hiring from the outside?

I have been working at Baylor Scott & White Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Get to help patients at a difficult time in their lives

    Cons

Too many leadership egos...I heard chief surgeons say this and I have experienced it.

    Advice to Management

Implement a top down policy on bullying...it is clear that Leadership has no training in human resource and simply make things up as they go along. If you ever ask for respect or professionalism, then you will become a target.
