I worked at Bayonne Medical Center part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The staff was wonderful to work with. I was able to put up extra hours often. My supervisor was very accommodating with my school schedule and they were always willing to train and help when needed. Pay was decent for a college student.

    Cons

This was a weekend job only. Despite being able to pick up extra hours, one was not given an opportunity for much overtime. I often worked alone on the weekends which was boring at times.

    Advice to Management

During the time I was employed by this company I did not have any issues with management. My supervisor was very accommodating and friendly and always available if I needed to get in touch w her (She was not in the office on weekends when I worked)

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Bayonne Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Small hospital great coworkers close to home getting to know patients well to being the only hospital in the community, opportunities for nurse driven change

    Cons

Top heavy organization ,lower salaries than other hospitals in the area, little ancillary help, business model of a for profit hospital hard to apply to patient care everything is based on productivity instead of acuity

    Advice to Management

Increase ancillary staff, increase salaries, offer specialty pay for hard to fill areas, adopt an acuity based system for staffing

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Bayonne Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Opened to different experience- increased experience in critical care, bariatric, enteral/parenteral nutrition, outpatient.

    Cons

Limited coverage, trying to make changes for patients and difficult with financial, patient population to consider, diet restrictions/food availability, staffing in kitchen. Staff to staff conflicts and different ideas. Seniority- I don't have any, PTO time goes to them first.

    Advice to Management

Scheduling conflicts, low moral of some staff and management. End result many times management choice. Maintenance hospital for elderly population (small size hospital) not much room for clinical advancement. Some staff ask personal questions, supposed to be balance between personal and profession.

    Pros

Bayonne is a small community, where everyone knows everyone. The same can be said of Bayonne Medical Center. it is a very intimate environment, allowing the getting to know everyone in the facility. This can be a good aid in adapting to the culture of the hospital.

    Cons

I have found that the following motto describes this hospital: " You can always qualify for more responsibility, though, never for more money."

    Advice to Management

Please realize that the grass isnt always greener on the other side. Give your employees a chance to advance. You may be surprised how much more productive they can become.
