I worked at Bazaarvoice part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

flexible schedules, above average earning potential (that's completely in your control), friendly management staff

    Cons

The work itself can get rote if you're someone who needs a lot of mental stimulation

    Advice to Management

Don't be so rigid when processor/proofer disputes arise. Since most disputes concluded with my being wrong and the other person being right (even when they definitely weren't), I sometimes wondered if preexisting rapport factored too much into management's opinions.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is by far the best place I have worked. The equipment and technologies we work on are cutting edge and we get to work with some of the smartest people in the business. Great work/life balance.

    Cons

The healthcare and benefits could be better, but I think thats the way the market is right now.

    Advice to Management

Thanks for keeping us engaged and informed. Keep doing what you do.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I've worked in several teams at Bazaarvoice, and the engineers have only gotten better and better. The teams are smart and collaborative. Folks are genuinely interested in achieving common goals, no ego-battles. The engineers are creative; they enjoy participating in design. These folks are a joy to work with. Also, is there isn't elitism. If you're a junior person, but you have a good idea, folks recognize it. It's such a great, trusting environment where ideas can be shared.

If you are hoping to develop your career, I'd say that engineering has the most developed career path. You can work your way from intern to principle. Product Management is next in line. There is associate, staff, senior, group, director, and VP. However, I think PM is kind of flattening a bit; most everyone is senior. Design is the least developed, with just senior, lead, and director. Historically, there has not been an entry-level opportunity on the UX team.

    Cons

UX / product design at Bazaarvoice has been somewhat neglected the past 4 years or so. We had an excellent director that left around 2013, and Bazaarvoice was extremely slow to hire his replacement. The team was so desperate for a leader and mentor, they made a couple very bad hiring decisions in a row. The team was demoralized by overly aggressive, insecure management. Right now the team is leaderless again, so the designers are without a mentor or representation or a plan for growth. Although the position is posted, there doesn't seem to be much urgency around the hire.

    Advice to Management

Bazaarvoice's company culture is precious. Never take it for granted, and continue to honor it in hiring decisions.

    Pros

Even though the Sydney office is small, it is a great team with strong relationships. Your work has a strong impact in the region and has good visibility to the team and to the company.

We share successes as a team by sharing how the deal was done, the renewal was secured or the client was launched with the organization! As a company, the CEO and key members of the leadership team share business results and provide a forum for sharing wins across the company at our month "gongs". It is probably one of the most collaborative companies I have worked for!

    Cons

The company is 11 years young so it is still a relatively new organization with similar growing pains of other organizations this young.
