    Pros

Great product. Unlimited vacation policy. Decent pay. Smart and creative pool of employees.

    Cons

Client Care Department is in serious trouble because of terrible management, but it doesn’t look like the executive team has noticed yet. Management is forcing “old school” views on a young tech company to “fix” something that wasn’t broken to begin with.

Some examples of the ridiculous acts of power play coming from management include hiring their own friends and placing them in senior roles when they don’t even know the Bazaarvoice products, firing current employees to make room for these friends, micromanaging daily activities, pushing employees out when they start questioning management’s decisions, promising non-existing positions to multiple employees to start a rat race, sharing employee performance details with other team members to gain trust, and the list goes on.

Needless to say this is causing the mass exodus that is now taking place in Client Care. Prior to these new “improvements”, people were generally happy with their jobs and the company as a whole. Now, everyone is looking for a way out...if they’re not already being pushed out.

    Advice to Management

Executive team seriously needs to take a look at what is going on in this department. If there isn’t a change in leadership soon, Bazaarvoice is going to lose all of its seasoned support employees.

I worked at Bazaarvoice full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible vacation, collaborative teams, snacks, health insurance, interesting coworkers, worldwide offices, opportunity for travel, room for advancement

    Cons

Lack of focus, senior leadership not trustworthy, one trick pony, power reviews fubar, grew too fast, teams lack energy, Austin office location

    Advice to Management

Be honest. Focus on great customer service instead of dropping service and turning your customers against you. There are other ways to cut costs.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Everyone is super friendly
    Flexible work schedule
    Great benefits
    Unlimited vacation
    Freedom to develop new projects
Finally recovering from the DOJ settlement

    Cons

    Management turnover is high
    Disorganized expectations of employees
No negotiation of pay unless you are changing departments
    Lack of career path options

    Advice to Management

You've got to find a way to keep management staff in place and then coordinate them. Managers contradicting each other isn't uncommon and can be a nightmare when trying to help clients.

    Pros

Attracts good engineers and programmers. Benefits are above average. Overall lots of good people to work with.

    Cons

Some people are often promoted to managerial positions due to their technical skills and expertise and not because they are good at leading others. Although this happens in every company, BV is not immune.

I worked at Bazaarvoice full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My experience was mostly very positive. They treated me and the rest of the client facing team I was on well. We were like a family. Some of the most fun I've had in my career, learned a lot. Doing work with great clients and really making an impact on a global scale.

    Cons

At some point it all got a little too repetitive for me and I got bored.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose what Brett and Brant built.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible unlimited vacation policy. Work from home and flexible work hour. Great snack selection in San Francisco office. Plenty of good and serious ping pong players to be entertained. Core products are evolving rapidly so there's a lot of rooms for personal development and growth. Bosses are very good listeners and want to listen to employee feedbacks.

    Cons

High churn for talented engineers the past year or years. Mostly all the lead roles I have known either wanted to leave, left already or decided to leave then come back. Obviously there's must be some cause to this pattern but I don't have an idea. There's no bonus & recognitions for engineers, especially the highest performing ones so maybe that's why they left for other companies. Some stock options would be nice but it's unheard of.

    Advice to Management

Continue to let engineers take the lead. You are doing it, but need to do it more. %20 time projects are good but not many are taking it. There is no better mean of retaining good engineers than letting them own something they are passionate about and giving them the options to growth in the direction they want.
