I have been working at Bear Transportation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Bear is 30 plus years old and has developed some wonderful tools that allow their brokers to maximize their earning potential. The company supplies administrative help to brokers who generate more work than they can personally handle.

    Cons

You eat what you kill - If you don't work you will not make any money. This is not a place to work if you are lazy or not motivated by money.

    Advice to Management

    stay the course

All Brokerage, no overhead due to no assets. Family oriented.

    Cons

Not up to par on Intermodal. Would be nice to have some assets.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

nice facility, updated software and phones, training, my manager is laid back, as long as you work hard and make money you won't have bosses breathing down your neck. Uncapped earning potential.

    Cons

benefits aren't great, if you don't know about transportation-the industry is very cut throat and makes it hard to take vacation time, takes time to build business.

    Advice to Management

It seems like the DM's are always in meetings- it would be nice to share with everyone what decisions you guys are making for the company.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Bear Transportation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Earning potential at Bear is limited only by one's effort and ability. Recent investments in organizational structure, training, and culture have made a positive impact on moral. The software and reporting tools to assist sales associates are a big help.

    Cons

While the company offers framework of support, it is not a cakewalk. You will have earned your way if you succeed in this field.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in your people and in the company's infrastructure

I worked at Bear Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They seem to really work with your schedule and will try and place you with a broker that will best suite you as well as the broker. Not just the broker. Commission was a plus and so were the hours that the company was open.

    Cons

expediters only take 2% off of their sales. This seems extremely low seeing as how the expediters are the ones who normally cover the freight as well as follow it from pick up to drop off. For how much the company pulls in from the brokers alone (they only get 20-25% of their freight plus they have to pay their expediters commission out of theirs) it wouldn't hurt them to put a little more into their employees 401K.

    Pros

You are given the opportunity to learn about freight. You are always busy. The one olace that you can truely earn money with every call.

    Cons

They should pay this position alot more than what they do.

I worked at Bear Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My teammates were some of the greatest to work with. If work got behind, there was always someone that could help you get caught up.

    Cons

While my teammates were a joy to work with, management was a different issue. They were only concerned with the bottom line, not losing customers, and the consumption of alcohol.

    Advice to Management

Communication with your employees and contractors is paramount to good business. Customers, current and potential, can hear happy workers on the phone.
