I worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Made connections with countless nurses and doctors in a friendly environment. Every day was a new activity so boredom is non existent.

    Cons

Not a high enough pay, long hours, and sometimes unnecessary tasks that you have to carry out despite there being software tools available.

    Advice to Management

Revise how you use your employees. Let them grow into higher positions rather than higher 3rd party companies to do your high level work.

I have been working at Beaufort Memorial Hospital part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good teamwork and adequate resources are a big plus.

    Cons

Much of the local populace treat this hospital as a primary care unit, particularly the emergency room which consequently becomes overwhelmed rather quickly with non-urgent and chronic issues.

    Advice to Management

Increase education among the local community regarding when it is appropriate to go to emergency room and when it is appropriate to see a primary care provider.

I worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hospital is in a beautiful, coastal location in between two larger trauma centers. Great outlook if a true and accurate departmental review is done. Don't trust what leadership tells you without taking a look for yourself.

    Cons

Very poor leadership. Worked in a department where the department head literally changed the schedule at least weekly and required employees to work back to back holidays - no rotation between employees. He's offended when employees ask why the changes are being made. Certain employees are treated unfairly in terms of the amount of work done. Increased workload times three then threatens a write up if employee is unable to complete work before shift ends. Favored employees are allowed to sit and watch Sunday games while certain others work continuously. Management will literally sit and watch certain employees work all day. The ones not working at all aren't being watched. No feedback for evaluations whatsoever other that an email to sign off. One literally has no clue how they are performing unless there is something negative to report and it's only given when it suits some other agenda. Hospital has too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Budget is off because department heads create unnecessary positions that aren't needed for a hospital that size. Cliques throughout.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees well. Stop the favoritism. Hire qualified employees instead of hiring because of personal friendships etc. The hospital will run more efficiently when the right people are placed in the right areas. Overworked staff is not efficient nor does it save money. Employees that are unhappy usually are because of bad management. What leadership expects is what the employees expect as well. Be consistent and allow feedback without retaliation.

I worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The hospital itself and overall culture was great! I really enjoyed interacting with various other departments and majority of departmental leaders are wonderful assets and genuinely care about their staff. The hospital does offer competitive salaries for the geographic area.

    Cons

The Human Resources department has a lot of room for improvement, specifically management (I refrain from refering to them as leaders). They do not encourage personal and professional growth, due to the fear that higher internal performing employees may be recognized and potentially surpass their own titles.

    Advice to Management

In order for an organization to grow and flourish, you must have good leaders in place that enjoy seeing their employees learn and grow, which generally leads to an increase in overall engagement, passion, and a culture based on trust and respect. The heart of an organization is its HR department, which sources and identifies future leaders. There is definitely a need for someone to take a closer look at the managers that are in position with the HR department.

    Pros

Great Supervisor for Coding and flexible schedule

    Cons

Not much leave, and for remote coders hard time getting IT to accommodate

    Pros

People are great to work with. It is a little "clicky" which is expected in a small town. The ER treats everyone as there are no primary care physicians to be found.

    Cons

Senior management is not in touch. When the ER is overloaded and there are no beds available, the phone rings, but nobdy is home.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your patients, take care of your employees and the rest will take care of itself. Also, if there is a qualifed internal candidate, promote from within instead of bringing in outsiders.

    Pros

The employees are super friendly & everyone knows everyone else on a first name basis. Quality & patient safety are a primary focus and at the end of the day - I can feel good about what I have contributed.

    Cons

Being a stand-alone, not-for-profit can have its pluses and minuses

    Advice to Management

We all need to remember to stay close to the primary reason for being - patient centered care.
