    I worked at Beca full-time

    Pros

Great learning curve, but no place for a career.

    Cons

Its like working for a cult. The ego of the place is utterly revolting, the culture is one of bullying. For an engineering firm it lacks business innovation, and its salarys are appauling.

    Advice to Management

Change the board of over paid dinosaurs that make all the company decsions.

    Pros

Caring company who reward Initiative and loyalty. Always trying to improve systems without inhibiting work. Strong safety culture. Employee Owned Company.

    Cons

Traditionally conservative with some issues with diversity in a n industry that struggles also with diversity. Needs stronger governance to company direction.

    Advice to Management

Do not use a cookie cutter when looking for leadership. Needs to properly promote diversity from ground roots for the future.

    Cons

Can get busy at times when tendering is due soon, but this is the same throughout the industry

I have been working at Beca full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Some genuinely nice people working hard and willing to help whenever asked.
    - Exposure to a wide variety of projects.
    - Company in Australia moving forward.

    Cons

    - Pay.
    - Lack of consistency in management of people across different sections.
    - Performance reviews for junior and intermediate staff glazed over
    - Long hours worked for no reward or recognition
    - Many processes copied from NZ part of the business and not adapted or used in Australia.
    - Definite feeling of contempt from across the ditch.

    Advice to Management

    - Recognise and reward people
    - If you want people to stay, pay them and give them an incentive. It's cheaper to increase wages to align with market rates than to hire new staff.
    - Listen to your staff, what works in NZ won't necessarily work here.
    - Having some senior management with local knowledge might be the key instead of relocating more kiwis.

I have been working at Beca full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great grad program takes you to Auckland for 3 conferences to meet the other 120 grads across the business.
Leaders are very approachable and contactable especially for Grads if proactive.
Leaders/section managers have a strong focus on employee development so if you want to travel or work in different teams they do their best as they see the value in a broad range of experience. Managers are also really happy for you to pursue random extra curricular projects/activities both internally and externally such as research/mentoring/societies conferences etc
For the Aussies, would highly recommend spending 1+ months NZ/Auckland if you get the chance. Beca is a beast in NZ.
Great culture, social club, Friday drinks, annual functions etc. good work life balance too.

    Cons

Being a tier 2/3 company in Australia means the big/exciting projects are not as common. However this is a strength in a way as this gives opportunities to work in a growing company with lots of smaller projects giving you variety. If you want the big projects then a stint in NZ is a must

    Advice to Management

Seems to be a high turnover for intermediates. Keep up the opportunities for all levels, building Australia as a powerhouse needs NZ involvement, the new structure is helping to facilitate this but the more cross pollination the better!

I have been working at Beca full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are actually some genuinely nice people in this company who are committed to performing to the best of their ability.
Social committee do a good job in organising activities and other benefits for staff

    Cons

Career -limiting HR tries to sell that id- more so for non-technical staff ie general admin- so far it's only more responsibilities but with not much change in prospects - unless the admin role is reporting to a senior management role
Micromanaging is not uncommon, depending which section/ business unit
Heavy workload, reactive way of working is not uncommon due to poor planning- more capable engineers and associates have left in the last 6 months due to poor style of management in some sections
The Australian office still " the small brother" to NZ after all these years
Senior and middle management with poor people skills - bad for staff morale

    Advice to Management

When appointing/ promoting Associates, managers, technical specialists and etc - look into their people skills as well as what they have done to achieve their KPIs - Recognise that some are better at managing upwards and really poor at managing and communication downwards.

I have been working at Beca full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great career progression opportunities
    Global organisation with travel opportunities
    Great people to work with
An employer who treats you as an individual and who cares about you as such.
I have found Beca a great place to work and have seen a lot of great career opportunities and progress. After recently having a tough time with my health Beca have been very supportive of me and my family, including allowing me to take substantial time off to recover and recuperate

    Cons

No majors for me. No organisation is perfect but Beca is the best I have worked for. Diversity is an issue in our industry and something we need to get better at but I know it's on the agenda
