I have been working at Bechtel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

good salary & benefits, safety is priority, checks always on time and without errors,

    Cons

though to advance, upper manegment are not willing to help people advance to a higher position, many supervision lack knowledge and experience,

    Advice to Management

I am currently a pipe fitter working for Bechtel, a few months ago I graduated form University of Texas with a Bachelor's degree. I have spoken to many people in management to try to advance in a higher position but no one seems to want to help out they actually think i want to take their jobs. I just recommend for Bechtel upper management to look into employee's education and qualifications to offer a advance positions.

I have been working at Bechtel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people. Excellent opportunities for career growth. Projects across the globe.

    Cons

Large company - merging of global business units and relocation of office space over the past several years has been detrimental to many employees, myself included. Instead of a true merger of business entities, those of us that had to relocate were "bolted on" to the new merged organization, and it has not been good for those of us that were "bolted on"...

    Advice to Management

Enhance Business Development efforts to build a significant backlog of work so that "layoffs of good and qualified personnel" don't have to occur.

    Pros

Great benefits. Good compensation. Stable company.

    Cons

Institutional environment. Very large and cumbersome to establish changes to culture.

    Advice to Management

Get to know personnel that aren't direct reports. I.e. direct reports of direct reports.

I worked at Bechtel as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Pay, Great Staff for the Internship Program, Great and caring people at the department level.

    Cons

Most of my department was let go over the course of the internship. It was really sad. Other offices were downsized as well.

    Advice to Management

Keep engineering jobs in the U.S. Outsourcing to remote locations will only hurt your company in the long run.

I worked at Bechtel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Bechtel was the greatest place on earth to work from 1995 to 2006.
Bechtel was a family, everyone took care of each other - not something just said but truely followed through with at Bechtel.

    Cons

Bechtel has slowly gone from great to typical. They are now just like every other place to work. There is no loyalty for employees nor is there any respect. People get ahead at Bechtel now by playing games and politics. You quantity and quality of work no longer matter. - Very sad place these days

I have been working at Bechtel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, they're not "clock watchers". Core group of employees make the environment fun. The work doesn't get old due to multiple sites working all the time.

    Cons

Perks are slowly but steadily diminishing, work gets piled on past overload, rules/specs/SOP change constantly. The office continues to get leaner, with no recognition or raises for those who remain.

    Advice to Management

Profit at the cost of your employees' sanity & morale will be short-lived.
