    I worked at Bechtel full-time

    Pros

    9/80 schedules and project experiences.

    Cons

If you are female I would steer clear away. Worked there for 10 years and it has taken a huge downward spiral when it comes to treatment of women.

I worked at Bechtel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits package, 4 wks vacation, 401k & retirement plan match. 9/80 flex schedule

    Cons

Workforce reduction is biased, employees with more years with the Co are kept, even poor performers.

    Advice to Management

Beware of low cost centers, they are not low if quality is low (rework), inexperienced, and inefficient. Don't implement policies that hamper leads in the name of VVC. Leads have a tough job being in the middle, having to please everyone above and below and yet are highly scrutinized.

    Cons

Recently the company has been greatly downsizing and does not have many new opportunities to continue development, recent raises and bonus have been extremely low due to company performance

    Advice to Management

Focus on getting new work and provide more opportunities for your staff to continue development

I have been working at Bechtel full-time

    Pros

401k/Retirement is outstanding, bonuses are sizable if you're in the inner circle, reasonable work/life balance, general work environment is relatively comfortable. Office location (Houston, OG&C business unit) is also a definite plus.

    Cons

Blatant cronyism is downright humorous. When they say they "take care of their people", they mean "Bechtels and the friends and family of Sr. Management". I have personally witness numerous instances of people being brought out of retirement as opposed to developing younger or more skilled talent. Career opportunities only exist for the inner circle. Entirely too many layers of management and positions created just to keep people around to collect a bonus/paycheck.

    Advice to Management

One of two things will ultimately be your downfall: 1. the refusal to change your business development strategies, and 2. the way you treat those not considered close, personal friends and/or family. You are no longer #1, so stop acting like it.

I worked at Bechtel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are on the right project you will get a chance to work with great people and get assigned to good work

    Cons

Very large company. Very easy to get sidelined if project is not the right one. Certification is almost mandatory. Rotational assignments are non existent.

    Advice to Management

Think more about young folks. Lot of dissatisfaction among the lower ranks. Younger folks have a lot of potential. Invest in skill training, rotational assignments and transparency.
