  7. "The company believes acquisition is more important than existing operations."

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Pros

The local facility has great people that work very well together. Turnover is low. Teamwork is a strength and the people are a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

Equipment is very old with little capital reinvestment. The company would rather spend cash in acquiring new companies resisting any Capital reinvestment at the existing sites. The company focuses on Kaizen locally Kama which is a strength. But it lacks functional cooperation of similar functions throughout different sites. The lack of functional coordination between sites results in leaving a lot of money on the table because of efficiencies.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work-life balance is good.
Middle managers focus on employee development.
Parental leave increased to 8-weeks paid (maternity/paternity).
    Company financially stable.

    Cons

    Lack of scientific innovation.
Too risk averse and not willing to take chances.
    Under utilize potential high performers.
    Late to market.

    Advice to Management

Beckman has some bright people, let them innovate and take a chance on those new ideas.

I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with. Employees have opportunity to learn lean techniques.

    Cons

Not a place where you can grow. Company takes all from you. Work long hours, sometimes weekends and holidays. No concept of work-life balance. Lot of speak-ups. This company seems to lack leaders with regulated background. HR meddles with others business.

    Advice to Management

    No advice. Management knows it.

I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People are fantastic. Many people are still there from years ago when this was a fantastic place to work. Those days are long gone but many of these people can't really go anywhere. They are wonderful even though it's such a crappy environment.

    Cons

People are disposable. No upward movement. At the end of the month when they're trying to make their numbers, they'll pull in the guy who's mowing the lawn to work on the production lines. Atrocious people skill.

    Advice to Management

The bottom line means nothing when you treat your people like dirt.
