I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hard work , and a lot of it!!!!

    Cons

Company struggling with the new era of internet sales...

Just was laid off, as I'm guessing the entire level of Department Manager's company wide.

Company struggling with the new market and going forward dismissing all Department Manager's, as a cost cutting act, I guess.

15 years and I tried my best, no chance offered to take reduced hour's, reduced pay, reduced position.... Tough!!

    Advice to Management

    Instore? Keep trying and doing!!
Outstore? Its getting rough out there!!!

    Pros

Good benefits, flexible schedule, good pay, they put people first to create a good working environment, good product knowledge, are able to provide great service to customers

    Cons

The company is reducing payroll, increasing expectations, doesn't put technology at the forefront as a priority, layoffs and closing stores

    Advice to Management

Continue to put people first and continue innovation

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The staff is supportive and it is a clean safe place to work. Great selection of products and the company pushes customer service

    Cons

Long days and small staff. Always too much to do and too little time. Customer service can be challenging and stressful.

    Advice to Management

Every is in the same boat with too much to do. We are all on the same team.

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company is very diverse in its hiring practice and pays well for managers they want. The opportunity to help employees with great skills to find better opportunity is high. Great job for ex-military first job but not career.

    Cons

The company doesn't develop managers correctly and is very nepotistic in nature, along with a "good-ol-boy" system. Managers from the outside are forced to work at the lower levels to understand the "store mentality". This creates animosity among the employees who have worked decades and have received very little wage increases. Clicks are very key to the company's operations, "Hardside vs Softside". Communities are allowed to infiltrate the stores and place political/social pressures on managers abilities to higher the best for companies needs. Mobility in the company is forced or else. Territories do not uphold agreements made in other territories. Wages are not consistent throughout the company and are based on territories performance (???) or the feelings of the store/territory managers i.e. feudalistic operations, not the corner mercantile mentality. A lot of people issues are handled poorly due to lack of leadership training/mentoring/wall management. Ex-military will have issues with poor leadership.

    Advice to Management

    See Cons.

    Pros

    No pros with this company

    Cons

Upper management from store level not commented to development of subordinates. Not trustworthy interpersonaly. Only looking out for themselves . They talk out of both sides of their mouths. Don't believe what they say.

    Advice to Management

No interpersonal skills. Say one thing than do something different.

    Pros

Salary is more than competitive. Management is very cohesive and flexible with family life. They really focus on your personal development.

    Cons

None. The experience was fantastic and one of the best retail experiences I have had after nearly 15 years in the industry.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Colleagues- peers are generally nice, associate incentive discount program, relaxed dress code- jeans allowed every day, piloting bring dog to work program

    Cons

IT management is increasingly showing their lack of competence. Hired a joke of a consultant to transform the org to 'agile' - they were fleeced. All that occurred is a total demoralization of the teams, management took no responsibility for their actions and blames the individual contributors, the people who were only following their directives. This company doesn't believe in professional development and it reflects in the type of people they elevate and their lack of skills or true professional experience outside of Bed Bath. In the end the emphasis was on back stabbing your peers and "calling them out" frankly what I saw in the last 6 months there mirrored what we see in our current White House

    Advice to Management

    Outsource IT- it's a mess

I have been working at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You can be promoted internally and you get shares of company stock, a 401k and the benefits are great.

    Cons

When it comes to the review and the raise lowers your motivation to achieve success.

    Advice to Management

If you like challenges this is the job for you.
