I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Allows managers to work independently, run your side as your own store

    Cons

Company is struggling, downsizing department manager role laid off almost 900 company wide.

    Advice to Management

Get ahead of this, hours in store are being cut, laying people off, customer service expectations is going down hill! You are cutting from the wrong place, to much district staff dollars being spent, but taking from the stores

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Higher pay than other retail jobs, relaxed on wardrobe, allows workers to have their phones on them, gives 20% discount on purchase

    Cons

Gives cashiers a lot of tasks to do in a shift, customers argue more often, discount is the same as having a coupon

    Pros

The associates as well as all the new gadgets

    Cons

Salary compared to expected work duties is unreasonable. After a long hard year of work I received a 0.30 cent raise and was told that this was the highest percent allowed...what a joke. The allotted labor in order to complete my daily duties was never enough because you were expected to drop everything for EVERY customer. While that seems to be a good philosophy, there was little support or understanding by upper management.

    Advice to Management

I would advise the management to be more upfront and diligent in providing feedback to their staff prior to their annual review. This will increase an employees productivity and knowledge of how they are performing their job. After a full year of service I was blindsided by a review that was not favorable and was told that I was being placed on Performance Improvement Plan. If the Manager would have taken some initiative to try to help an employee rather than try to get rid of them they might actually cultivate a better culture and staff.

  4. "It's a Department Store Job"

    Pros

It's laid back cause it's easy work. The challenge is in learning all the codes and numbers for stock, and that's the hardest thing there is. The management in the store I worked for was super nice, listened to my life problems type of nice. Decent hours and flexibility.

    Cons

It's a department store job with all the cons of working a never ending cycle of stock and sell and smile. It's a good job to zone out in, but the monotony is horrible. Also, the culture of the job- very lame.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up. The morning and evening casual meetings were helpful and constructive.

    Cons

    No breaks at times

    No Bonus/appreciation

    Advice to Management

Get out of the Office & Help
Give Associates rewards for going above and beyond

    Pros

    No pros with this company

    Cons

Upper management from store level not commented to development of subordinates. Not trustworthy interpersonaly. Only looking out for themselves . They talk out of both sides of their mouths. Don't believe what they say.

    Advice to Management

No interpersonal skills. Say one thing than do something different.

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Colleagues- peers are generally nice, associate incentive discount program, relaxed dress code- jeans allowed every day, piloting bring dog to work program

    Cons

IT management is increasingly showing their lack of competence. Hired a joke of a consultant to transform the org to 'agile' - they were fleeced. All that occurred is a total demoralization of the teams, management took no responsibility for their actions and blames the individual contributors, the people who were only following their directives. This company doesn't believe in professional development and it reflects in the type of people they elevate and their lack of skills or true professional experience outside of Bed Bath. In the end the emphasis was on back stabbing your peers and "calling them out" frankly what I saw in the last 6 months there mirrored what we see in our current White House

    Advice to Management

    Outsource IT- it's a mess
