I have been working at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Restoration offers many different services to the community in various areas, including arts and culture, business development, health, social service, workforce development, weatherization, so it is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in the non-profit sector to acquire a broad range of experience and knowledge in the field.

    Cons

Internal communication could improve. As with most non-profits you will wear many hats and resources are limited. It is therefore crucial that internal communication is effective and timely, so that it does not frustrate planning and all are on the same page.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Salary is good, non-profit doing a lot of good things for the community. Well know in the community, into all aspects of community life. For example Arts, after school care, helping with heat and energy conservation, helping local businesses with loans, advice, housing for the poor and needy. Also helps the youth with job trainning and high diploma as well as the green industry.

    Cons

Very poor financial management, practically the whole of management delegates accounts payable calls to lower employees.
Inhouse power struggle, various department heads refusing to perform their jobs unless others have done this or that, behind closed doors.
No room for advancement, so a lot of employee turnover and always looking for professional employees with sub standard pay.

    Advice to Management

Need to be more professional and spread the work load across more employees.
