I worked at Behringer Harvard Holdings full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Marketing Department was a great place to work in. They gave me lots of room to explore and come up with new ideas. Great way to run a team allowing all the art directors to have input and then decide on a course of action and move on.

    Cons

Too bad the rest of the company was not run the same way. Terrible communication to the point of telling everyone it was all sunshine and roses until it wasn't then management just didn't say anything until a huge chunk of the employees were laid off. Additionally, don't worry if you can't do the job they hired you for...just become buddy, buddy with a executive and you will be taken care of even if you can't do the job.

    Advice to Management

Your people are who make you great and when you manage them like things instead of inspiring them and leading them even in tough times then your true colors show and we all see how terrible the new management really is about taking care of business and people.

    Pros

Nice building! Nice parking! Great location. Some very talented people ... and some 'lessers' with power. Salaries are competitive and a good place to get some experience and move on.

    Cons

There are embedded in this company some drags on competency. The company retains and supports some elements in management that are not competent. There can be situations in which retaliatory conduct transpires, known to management, that is tolerated. There can be conduct which is questionable which is tolerated.

    Advice to Management

Basically, this is a very closely held company and they can do what they want. They do! That's just the way it is. It's made them rich, there is a hierarchy, and it is THEIR BUSINESS. They can be as fair or unfair as they wish. You have to respect that and accept that. They have the capacity to tolerate a lot from their managers, and the department may suffer. Not relevant. All that is relevant is the bottom line. You cannot argue with success, such as it has been for this company. GOOD SHORT TERM JOB SPOT.

    Pros

    Cons

compensation below industry average, no 401k matching and raises have not been given in 3 years. Do not mentor employees for job growth

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk - promote from within. Clean house and layoff employees that do not have the correct skill set for their positions. Do not hire because it was someone you worked with before but on need.

    Pros

    Relaxed atmosphere
    Meet a lot of people
    Good industry to be in
If you like an occasional business travel this will be a good place for you

    Cons

It really depends which part of BH you will fall into. The company structure is pretty complex with the different funds the have and management style from department to department will vary.

    Bad communication between departments
A lot of confusion in some departments

    Advice to Management

Provide managing skills to some of the employees who do not posses people skills, but are in supervisory position.
