I have been working at Belcan as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salary is reasonable, benefits are acceptable

    Cons

No potential for advancement, high turnover in contract positions, all Belcan really did was help with the on-boarding process. After that they provided no service or assistance. They basically only helped file my initial paperwork with the company and then sat back and collected $7 an hour for each hour that I worked. It is a huge rip off.

new culture of survival of the fittest and impossible targets set. Moral is down and turnover is becoming a problem

    Advice to Management

don't become like Honeywell who sold its soul to the devil (aka shareholders)...people do matter.

    Pros

Not many. Most of the people there are pretty cool

    Cons

They have a terrible vacation package, even worse holiday schedule. absolutely zero training. and the training they do say they offer is at your expense. The designers are for the most part horrible. They say you are salary, but as soon as you are not billable they lay you off. they call you salary so they dont have to pay time and a half for OT. They have all their eggs in one basket at each office. So there is no job security whatsoever. Very poor management, steadily decreasing healthcare benefits. and they were just bought by a holding company.

    Advice to Management

    Start praying

I have been working at Belcan full-time

    Pros

Flex time...for now. There's rumors about going to shifts to increase profits.

Decent/OK first job out of college.

Managers are typically easy going and easy to talk to.

    Diverse field of employees.

You can transfer to different groups to try different disciplines if you wish.

You can't take your work home so it doesn't effect home life. They pay straight over time if your job has budget for over time. Working just 40 hours isn't looked down upon.

    Atmosphere is relaxed.

They give you 3 guaranteed sick days with a possible 5 max, but you have to petition for the other 2 days. Most people use the 3 sick days as vacation days because you only get 10 days vacation for the first 6 years of employment. They do allow you to buy an extra 5 days if you wish.

You can also get small discounts for car purchases, cell phone service, etc.

    Cons

Despite the propaganda from management that 95% are happy, people are far from happy. Wages are stagnant, well below the industry average, and some have even been reduced. No raises if you're well experienced, OK raises for inexperienced.

No diversity in customers, so a very large percentage of work comes from only one customer, which has demanded that the rates that we charge them continues to decrease to "low cost" levels, which affects the business model and the experience level of personnel. Belcan agrees to the continuing decreasing rates. You can't get and keep talented people if you're not willing to pay the price to get and keep them.

There's no advancement opportunity at all unless you're upper management.

Employee turn over is higher than it should be.

Senior management has problems negotiating and being able to attain new customers. Recently hired senior staff tasked with attaining new customers have failed.

Compensation both salary and benefits are below the average. Wages are low. Vacation days are low. You get 10 days only for the first 6 years. After 6 years you get 15 days. Health insurance costs are high. 401K matching is low.

    Training is minimal.

We used to get "skip level" meetings with senior management, but we didn't get one this year. Information flow down is minimal.

    Advice to Management

Many people give management advice, rate the company in an annual survey, identify pros and cons. They discount the cons, ignore the advice, and focus only on the pros. As a result the annual survey is looked upon as a joke.

    Pros

The common employees are all very nice and easy to get along with, some of the management not so much they seem to have their little clicks.

    Cons

Training was not there, they expect you to run weekly reports but the trainer has no idea how to read or what to look for in the reports, so reports went out with errors. They expect you to do receptionist work and PA and there are way to many distractions in the receptionist area to be able to focus on the PA work which is detailed.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your trainers know how to train incoming employees, do set them up to fail

    Pros

I did like working with this company

    Cons

there seems to be only two assembler jobs in all of Hickory, Newton, Lincolnton, Morganton areas in the last four months. I've applied for these two jobs on multiple web sits and through multiple companies. and still everyday I hunt for anything new and there isn't ANYthing new. I know that companies like Belcan are trying to help get people jobs but something needs to change.

I worked at Belcan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people there are mostly OK to work with. Though, many of them won't hesitate to stab you in the back if they feel it will further their position. That's an effect of the management style there.

    Cons

They lie, cheat and steal. Managers (mid-level, senior level and even HR) will lie to you about opportunities coming for the group, about your career opportunities, about raises, about money, vacation... I still have a hard time believing what I saw there.

    Advice to Management

    Get new jobs.

    Pros

There really aren't any reasons to work at Belcan unless you really just need a job.

    Cons

No cost of living or performance based salary increases for years on end. Dead end contract job. If you bring your spouse or significant other to holiday parties be expected to pay their way out of your own pocket.
