"19 year employee. Held many positions full time. Part time sales associate the last 3 years."

    Pros

Used to be a good company to work for but it is no longer. The double employee discounts are the only good thing remaining.

    Cons

Pay cuts. If they give raises at all it is miniscule. Maybe 20 cents. They are cutting benefits, hours, pay. They require 3 week notice for a day off. However they can change your schedule without notification. This used to be a good company to work for. No longer.

I have been working at Belk full-time

    Pros

Currently, Belk is updating their culture to be more open and modern. Quarterly meetings are held at fun offsites, and lots of renovations are underway to make the office more habitable (e.g. gym, coffee shop, etc.)

Management supports individual initiatives as long as the purpose supports underlying goals.

    Decent work/life balance.

    Cons

Compensation could be better, and with the change in strategy, the responsibilities can become muddled.

Systems are dated and many processes are manual. Difficult to get a request for new systems started.

    Advice to Management

Clarity on roles would be helpful, as would aligning the structure with clear business owners.

A compensation review would help to align positions and associates with their market value.

I have been working at Belk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

health care--good --discount 20-20 people good

    Cons

Belk is one sided only thinking about Belk. They push item locator, selling charges, reflexis giving full timers hours that are meant for part time help, commission sales people never get raises or a pat on the back. Co workers are great.

    Advice to Management

Belk give alot of money to college funds, the Belk Bowl, the performing arts, charities. They should be sharing their wealth with their hard worker. Without the hard workers selling, Belk wouldn't have the money to support their causes or to take care of their expenses.
