I have been working at BellSouth full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Big budget projects
    Respected employees
    Treated employees well
    Job security (until AT&T)
Interesting industry (telcom, internet, wireless, TV)

    Cons

    Highly conservative "corporate" culture
    Some systems were antiquated
    Some procedures were nonsense
Some deadwood employees... but most OK

    Advice to Management

Hope Duane Ackerman is enjoying the new island he purchased with part of his $$ multi-million golden parachute. Thanks Duane for helping turn the telcom industry into a near monopoly via heavy consolidation/mergers and blowing up thousands of jobs for real people.

I have been working at BellSouth full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They always had room for advancement. Started out in inside sales and within 3 years was working on global accounts

    Cons

If you chose to move up the ladder you also had to move. Not everyone wanted to be in Atlanta or Nashville.

    Advice to Management

Upper management was always fair and to the point

    Pros

The compensation, benefits, work environment, and the ability to work in any depatment in the organization at any location globally. They will train you to do any jobs in the company. The current CEO started as a technician in the field and worked his way up to CEO.

    Cons

There is no flexibility in scheduling. Bellsouth/Att does not care about you going to school, family, or immediate health. They want you to be at work everyday, with 12 hours of overtime weekly, and work 6 days a week if they can convience you to do so. No matter how valuable you really are, they will fire you or downsize a complete department without hesitation.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what employees are saying and try to help employees cope with difficult situations, even if you cannot change the situation. Do not act like every change is always good change.
