I worked at Bellflower Unified School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

my administrators were supportive of me as a new teacher and always willing to help or give advice

    Cons

many more veteran teachers had bad things to say about district level operatives and that they hire and let new teachers go every single year simply because they don't have numbers figured out (which is what happened to me)

I have been working at Bellflower Unified School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Teaching can be a very rewarding profession, where each day is different and it's never boring. Working with kids and helping them grow and learn is amazing.

    Cons

Over the years more and more has been expected of teachers in general, and BUSD hasn't provided the support its teachers need. We didn't get much Common Core training, we still don't have a language arts curriculum, state testing is extremely stressful, and BUSD doesn't have elementary art/science/computer teachers, so we teach it all. If you have recess duty then you only get a 30 minute lunch break, no other break, and we all have to do 2 duties a week. Most teachers either don't have an aide, or only have one for a half hour a couple days a week. The students with behavior problems make it nearly impossible to teach. Mostly I feel like the district just doesn't care about its teachers.

    Advice to Management

Come and teach for a day in some of the classrooms, undercover, and see for yourself how difficult our job is. We need more money, more help, and a language arts curriculum.
