"Decent education but Curb College is very misleading"

    I worked at Belmont University

    Pros

Belmont has a great location, decent professors, and appears to be growing and expanding its reach and influence around Nashville and the Tennessee area.

    Cons

Provides potential students with unrealistic job expectations, and does not do enough to give its students an accurate depiction of the post-collegiate job market. Much of the student body is also privileged and entitled which does not promote a learning environment.

    Advice to Management

Don't make promises to 18 year old kids and their parents that you know won't come true. Every Belmont music business major is not simply handed a high-paying, interesting music industry job with their diploma.

I worked at Belmont University part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great co-workers and amazing students in the Art Department. A great place to be as an adjunct and starting a career. Everyone is really welcoming and helpful across the board. Faculty seems genuinely committed to the students as a whole.

    Cons

The school is always growing so the need for full-time is always there, but unfortunately the funds don't always meet the need. But they're always looking and trying. They honestly do a good job of trying to meet student needs in faculty / teacher ratios but like all schools it takes time.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I have been working at Belmont University

    Pros

Benefits, tuition discount, free public transportation

    Cons

No new staff hired to manage the rapid growth of student body; tremendous workload

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about accreditation and appearances. Just do right by the students, faculty, and staff you have currently. Students are beginning to become disallusioned, so beware. Belmont's good reputation cannot be maintained with complacency.

I have been working at Belmont University

    Pros

Small Christian family environment, smart students, great facilities. Time off to be with family and travel.

    Cons

Micromanagment of professors in the CEMB by mid management. Management is not promoted on merit, but rather favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent with payscale between ranks. Codify promotion requirements for CEMB. Reward those for getting PhDs.

I worked at Belmont University full-time

    Pros

Mostly Christian institution. Small school where you can get to know people. Tuition benefit. Very talented students who go on to greatness.

    Cons

A bit of a shock coming from a large university. Students are prone to entitlement here, and some of the senior leadership egos are unreal. There was a failure by leadership to plan and set operation expectations for my area. When they finally did, jobs were on the chopping block.

    Advice to Management

When you bring an employee on board, please make your expectations clearly known and do not take lightly someone's livelihood. You have a quality school with much to offer the world, and it is a rewarding place to work.
