    Management is so afraid of a union they listen to the employees and not the supervisors. The employees are lazy. There is a lot of in fighting among managers.

    Pros

    Pay for the job and area is good.

    Cons

    Promotion of people who do not promote the values the company represent. Executive Leadership is disengaged, and have not performed an actual task in so long, it seems they forget that people are needed to perform the task (treated like a number). The culture is poor at best, and with a mix of several acquired companies; each culture from each acquisition is different and does not work well together. The focus is strictly placed on making money, and no focus is put into the people making the money. People are not involved in decisions, which affect them (hiring, promoting, projects selected, etc.). No time, or resources to accomplish the mountain of tasks placed on departments and people from all over the company. There are so many tasks needing to be done from the different segments (Quality, Service, Leadership, Sales, IT, etc.), and they do not communicate with each other, so the burden falls on individuals or departments to complete the unrealistic expectations. Of course all the departments want their items first, but provide no support to help get the items accomplished. The goals are unobtainable, and expectations to achieve the goals are unrealistic. No training for major ERP system changes (SAP). If you don't get it, too bad! Training is weak. Promotion of training, but once "trained", nobody supports the trained employee and expect the person to know exactly what to do for every situation. This includes items that can be very complex, with no support from the trainer (sink or swim mentality). Now, this may be exactly what you are looking for, and you can thrive in an environment like this. Then I encourage you to apply. This is not for me, and I am actively looking for a different job. I am looking for a job where culture is just as important as the bottom line. Where people matter, and the difference is noticed when walking around the company. There is a bleak outlook where I work, and several people are "jumping ship" at my location, because nobody from the executive leadership team cared to involve people in their decision making.

    Advice to Management

    Take away the "power hungry" people you have in the company. Evaluate yourselves, and the ones who work for you. Micro-managers are a thing of the past. You need to get with the times and be willing to change to what the generation coming into the workforce is expecting from management. Initiate a 360 degree review process, so we as employees have a fair look at our performance, without the bias of one person (my boss). Many companies are already doing this - Come into the 21st century. You will continue to lose people, including me! This may not bother you at all, but it should. You should care about the people working in your organization, because without them; Bemis is nothing. Quit focusing on the past, and move into the future!

    Company is working to change culture, however not making a lot of actual changes to do so other than talk about it. Frustrating to employees after talking about it for a couple years already.

    Pros

    People are friendly. The job is interesting. Pretty good life-work balance.

    Cons

    Bemis is stuck in the past. The vacation and leave policy are from 1980. The other benefits are from 2000. I feel like they take 15-20 year old HR play books from large companies (like GE) that failed and blindly follow. its a medium sized company that is in the process of de-leveling which equates to zero opportunity for career development and growth. There are zero opportunities for vertical movement as a research professional. Any previous work experience at other employers is disregarded, everyone enters the technical research group as a fresh college grad. People in management have been with the company 30+ years. Then next rung has been there 15+ years waiting for promotion. HR doesn't even pretend there's any opportunity, they tell you to try for more lateral movement...hard when there are no lateral opportunities either, especially with high level technical background.
    In general the company is just stuck in the past. People openly make comments like 'its women who do the shopping and no one can figure them out.'...Unfortunately for Bemis, that attitude is likely attributing their their loss of sales. its a very, very insular culture. Very old boys club, and proud of it.

    Advice to Management

    The company seems to be stuck in a rut for sales. Management seems to acknowledge that they need to do something, but they have no idea what to do. Unfortunately you can throw as many old GE play books at a problem as you want and try to implement 'systems', but if you don't have real ideas and real leadership it won't get you anywhere.
    You can't even tell if the CEO and executive branch have good ideas because no one underneath is following them. Its a ship with no head bobbing in the waves.

    Pros

    A handful of the people are fairly good to work with. It would be a 1 star except the benefits are actually decent compared to most other large organizations with the exception of pay.

    Cons

    There is no unified organization. Each plant operates in it's own way with it's own rules. Things such as pay, overtime rules and vacation vary significantly even within the same section of a state for multiple facilities. The company is not interested in providing financial commitment to the upgrade of outdated equipment, instead the primary focus is to save pennies by bringing in lower quality materials which create additional headaches. Everything is extremely micromanaged to the finest detail. You better have an engineering degree or there's not many opportunities no matter how much experience and knowledge you gain. Pay is not very competitive with similar positions in the area.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the people who have actually been doing the hands-on work and understand the processes. Give people the chance to do their work without wasting time on ridiculous ideas.

    Pay was ok for the work but the scheduling in production sucks wouldn't recommend if you have a family or life outside work

    Cons

    High turnover in production the 12 hr shift work sucks can't get use to the day/night rotation management doesn't listen

    Listen to your employee's concerns!
    Provide equipment that will allow for jobs to be completed
    Provide job clarity- what is it you hope to accomplish? What's the vision?
    Provide useful and relevant feedback
