Pros

- Worked with a lot of great Scientists in the field - They have some good engineers but won't stay for long

Cons

- Favouritism and nepotism are all over the place. Special treatment for the ex-Klick employees and favour over who can sweet talk the executives. - Nano-management:- They controlled every task that you do. Breathed down the neck daily and weekly by every level of management. - Dictating opinions:- Quarterly engagement surveys and performance reviews each year (8 in total) causing opinion fatigue. This is their deviously tactics to keep everyone away from sharing the experience publicly . People also get scrutinized when they speak their mind in the supposedly anonymous survey. - They disguised as a SaaS business but in fact most features are requested by a particular client . People thought they work hard for a big vision but in reality they are put on hamster wheels. A word of advice for the Scientists who are best at what they do should just make an impact at the bench. This is only a hype. Why would you put up with the crack of whip doing meaningless excel chores and ignore the real calling to work at the lab bench with mRNA and CRISPR technology which you folks are best at. - The CDO is a new PhD grad who thought he knows everything about technology. Wrong choices are made with ego. It was very difficult to work with him as he showed hostility at work. The machine learning team is hindered by his incompetency. He held the company hostage with his convoluted legacy system. - The CEO is just a lucky dude who has connection/background with some VCs for fundings. He has zero regards for you as you are just his little expendable soldiers. Think of all the founders/comrades he got rid of one after the other. When he is finishing with you, all you get is his funny face. Make sure to turn the lights off before you go.

Pros

- Smart, thoughtful people - For a time, pretty good benefits and flexibility - The science and technology were pretty cutting edge for a while

Cons

BenchSci should be a Harvard Business Review case study of what happens when you take a good idea and let a megalomaniacal CEO run with it. He surrounded himself with yes-people, most of whom have zero credibility in the space and couldn't explain how any of it works without excessive coaching and hand holding by those who do. He is a B-school "businessman" who has no background in technology or science. He thinks ChatGPT summarizations of Twitter are the same as a complex, deeply scientific AI/ML offering - because ultimately, everything needs to be simplified to a level he can wrap his brain around. The people who do know anything are marginalized and pushed to the side (e.g., the CSO and CDO), but I am guessing they're banking on the stock being worth something to them (spoiler alert: probably not, given the raging incompetence that ran roughshod all over the place!). Instead, you have commercial leaders with - you guessed it - zero science or tech background. The company is based on vaporware slides that were cooked up by a commercial lead who ruled with a toxic fist and ensured that the entire leadership team reflected his gross approach to the workplace. There is nepotism abounding - so many unqualified people in positions they have zero right holding, but they jump at the CEO's command, so they're part of the BenchSci family. Talented engineers and scientists tried to make the vision a reality, but they were thwarted by a commercial team that made increasingly impossible promises to customers, all in a desperate play to bring in revenue. At the end of the day, it's a low integrity, hyper-political place. It always has been. And now it's a sinking ship. I doubt it matters that anyone leaves any more reviews, because they are laying people off in waves (note: they're doing this in the most cruel way possible to try and get people to quit - no concerns about the stress and anxiety they're causing good, hard-working people). It's a totally predictable end to this group, and it's a shame that a good idea was wasted and good people had to suffer.

Pros

There is no Pros for this company

Cons

The product being sold is essentially worthless, considering ChatGPT can perform its functions for free. The company's SVP leadership often says "Fake it till you make it", misleading clients by promising features and functionalities they don't yet possess, then pressuring the team into developing them without any clear direction. This leads to immense stress, causing many colleagues to break down. Sales leaders make extravagant promises to clients, leaving teams scrambling to deliver under unrealistic expectations set by Product leadership. Gender diversity in leadership is severely lacking, with the few women in leadership roles and they also lack the requisite skills. Senior managers lack significant experience, and product leaders have never successfully launched a product before BenchSci. Furthermore, the science leadership demonstrates a dearth of practical knowledge in drug discovery, with many of the so-called leaders working here barely out of graduate school. No one here has any drug discovery understanding or experience. The company's modus operandi often employs flashy presentations to obscure the real capabilities when presenting. The members of the C-suite reinforce each other's egos, enabling manipulative behavior to flourish. The organizational culture perpetuates male dominance, effectively stifling any chance for female leadership to emerge. All VP-level leaders seem solely focused on expanding their own domains and back stabbing each other. Transparency regarding the company's financial status is notably absent, leaving employees in the dark regarding the organization's stability and future prospects. The absence of a clear direction or career advancement roadmap leaves employees stranded in their professional trajectories. Advancement within the company often hinges on personal connections with senior management rather than merit, resulting in individuals being hired for roles they are ill-equipped for, solely based on favoritism. Individuals who exhibit rude and arrogant behavior are being promoted under the guise of promoting diversity, simply because they are perceived as willing to speak up.
