I worked at Benedictine College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great working environment with people who are engaged and dedicated to the school's mission of community, education, and faith.

    Cons

Sometimes slow to move on initiatives that could expand their graduate school offerings.

    Advice to Management

The mission of the school is very well understood by the leadership and has come back from some very lean years a decade ago. Frankly, very impressive.

I have been working at Benedictine College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean, modern facilities. Relaxed environment. Friendly coworkers. Always meeting new people.

    Cons

Sometimes slow. A lot of paperwork. Sometimes tedious work.

    Advice to Management

More autonomy is needed when giving tours or discussing a more specific area of the school in order to give a more personalized experience for prospective students and families.

I have been working at Benedictine College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strongly Catholic, the people you work for and with are some of the best people I have known, very close knit community, a lot of school pride

    Cons

The campus is very pretty, almost too pretty, which makes me wonder why some of that money isn't being put toward scholarships instead of truckloads of mulch. Also in my particular department I had trouble with my boss understanding the work/life balance. Seemed to micromanage and found many nitpicky things about job performance without ever giving any affirmations on jobs done well.

    Advice to Management

See cons. Sometimes it seems like we're trying to be too professional and politically correct. But other than that I have no compaints.

I have been working at Benedictine College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Faculty and Students work together well. The students are amazing.

    Cons

Location, small very opinionated senior faculty, campus is spread out so interaction with faculty is hard sometimes.

    Advice to Management

We have a good dean and a visionary president. The mission is strong and very clear. This is a special school.

I have been working at Benedictine College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Engaged and friendly teaching faculty

Many many good, hard working people on the staff side in lower positions

Close community and relaxed atmosphere much of the time

    Cons

Corruption from the CFO level on down

The worst style of helicopter management

Lifelong employees hired on family connections with no motivation or qualification

Pandering to a conservative student body has lead to the hiring of unqualified professors in subjects like biology and history

Extremely dated technological environment, poor support

Regular maintenance failures leading to flooded buildings and power outages

Boondoggle of a new building cost 10 million dollars with an entire floor devoted to the top three executives suites'

Other buildings, especially dorms, over 50 years old with no renovation. Literally falling apart

Whole school lost an entire semester's work in 2012 due to infrastructure failure

Many many teachers, staff leaving due to issues above and a generally hostile working environment

    Advice to Management

None. Management is the issue, they are well aware of it, and they aren't going to do anything about it. Stay away from this school.
