I worked at Benedictine Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Variety. Impactful. Needed. Diverse. BHCM is an exciting place full of challenges that are great for new nurses and experienced nurses alike. A ventilator unit in a nursing home? Who knew! Nurse staffing rations.

    Cons

English proficiency isn't great among staff and many residents. Difficult coworkers from time-to-time. Nursing assistant staffing ratios are a challenge as are finding quality nursing assistants.

    Advice to Management

Cut your losses with difficult staff. Utilize write ups.

I worked at Benedictine Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Experience is highly variable depending on facility. Some are great facilities, great teamwork.

    Cons

The CEO for the system is clueless. Working at the corporate office is very demoralizing and dysfunctional

    Advice to Management

Although they really promote their values, the values are not lived out at the corporate level which can lead to cynicism.

I have been working at Benedictine Health System part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to start as an RN. Good staffing levels. Provides excellent care to poor and vulnerable adults. Chance to get valuable experience with ventilator patients. Diverse workplace. Supportive kind managers.

    Cons

Low starting pay relative to hospitals. High turnover which is standard for nursing homes.

    Advice to Management

Be more aware and show up now and then on nights and weekends

    Pros

    Provide ongoing education.
    Close to home
    Nice facility
    Nurse preceptor for staff
    Variety of experiences

    Cons

    Poor salary
Poor benefirts- very expensive and high deductible
    Poor management
    Large patient to nurse ratio
Changed from 80/8 q 2 weeks to 40 hourwork week
Management plays favorites and hires from their family and friends

    Advice to Management

Actually work with your staff so you know what you are dealing with. Need to offer some pay incentives, get rid of the point system for call ins, sometimes you are going to be sick and more than quarterly, if you have a doctor excuse you shouldn't eat points.

I worked at Benedictine Health System full-time

    Pros

Absolutely nothing that I can think of...

    Cons

There is constant middle and upper management level turnover. This health system does not represent the "Core Values" of what originated with the sisters of the St. Scholastica Monastery. Terrible administrators at the Duluth facility.

I have been working at Benedictine Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive of me while in school for my RN. They were flexible, supportive and gave me tuition assistance. My boss provides feedback in a positive way and has written letters of recommendations for scholarships and encouraged me through school. The staff get along well together and it is a healthy and productive work environment. I love my job... even having to work nights!

    Cons

Turn over due to new RN grads getting experience here and going to the hospitals- good/bad. As with all companies in this industry, the pay could be better, but limitations are related to funding, acuity and reimbursement.

    Advice to Management

Pay, incentives, vacation, benefits may increase staffing stability, but I understand the limitations in funding. Your staff is truly the best of the best. Great reputation in the community of Shakopee and SW metro.
