I have been working at Benedictine Health System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The mission and values are exceptional. The Vice Presidents and Directors are outstanding.

    Cons

The managers and supervisors make working here unbearable. Micromanagement, unprofessional, unable to work as a team, unable to speak about work and bounce ideas and frustrations with other colleagues, tension runs thick in the air. A lot of turnover because of the environment the managers and supervisors bring.

    Advice to Management

Come out of your office/to the office and care more about your employees, instead of trusting your managers and supervisors. f

I have been working at Benedictine Health System part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE!! I have gained so much nursing/medical experience working here. I have seen medical dx that most will not encounter in a LTC. The knowledge I've gained from this job is incredible.

    Cons

Management throws a lot at you, workload is crazy! Don't expect to leave after your 8hr shift is over, it's rare to have your charting/work completely finished before your shift is over. Which you will get "talked" to by management if your work isn't done before you leave, and you will get "talked" to if you stay to finish and have overtime. And on top of it, management likes to consistantly give you more duties to do when you can't even finish the original duties.
Also, Management can be is not always direct with employees, they can be very untrustworthy and have been known to deceive many employees for their benefit.

    Advice to Management

Your staff will stay and be loyal to you if you are loyal to them. Staff turn-over will stop if there is incentive to stay and they feel they are appreciated. Find solution for workload or hire more staff.

I have been working at Benedictine Health System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cna's are a tremendous asset, even though short staffed all the time.

    Cons

Clinical managers will not get off their chairs in their office to help nursing. No training, you get thrown on the floor. Nurses don't even hel each other.

    Advice to Management

Fire all management and start over and build a better community

Not much - please see Advice to Mgmt

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Although the organization's mission and values are great because of their tie to the Sisters of St. Scholastica, the people - especially [most] management - are terrible. They think they are superior and if you question them, they alienate you, mistreat you, and make life extremely difficult. Mgmt takes credit for your work because they are not knowledgeable. There is no life/work balance - you are overworked, not recognized, and not appreciated. Lastly, favoritism is rampart with this organization. A message to the honest hardworking staff: Be careful with whom you talk to. If you are not a brownnoser, you will get thrown under the bus, not get anything, or go anywhere.

I worked at Benedictine Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Variety. Impactful. Needed. Diverse. BHCM is an exciting place full of challenges that are great for new nurses and experienced nurses alike. A ventilator unit in a nursing home? Who knew! Nurse staffing rations.

    Cons

English proficiency isn't great among staff and many residents. Difficult coworkers from time-to-time. Nursing assistant staffing ratios are a challenge as are finding quality nursing assistants.

    Advice to Management

Cut your losses with difficult staff. Utilize write ups.
