I have been working at Berea College part-time

    Pros

The college is built on a historic background being the first interracial college in the south as well as gender inclusive. The school takes pride in serving bright new minds from impoverished backgrounds around Appalachia, thee United States and all over the world. The development team is very relaxed calm. Everybody is friendly and there is a feeling of gratitude to service for a bigger purpose than profit.

    Cons

Might be limiting in terms of mobility. Not a huge department. Most universities have a development team for every college but Berea just has one. It's also an under appreciated work considering most of the students benefit from the annual fund raising in the department. Many students may never know the work that gets done behind their backs.

    Advice to Management

There maybe a time in the near future when the institution will need to reset the socio-demographic focus and move towards other projects which may help them get funding.

A bright idea for the team would be, what if the college could subsidize new businesses to grow in exchange for a commitment from those same businesses to donate back.

I worked at Berea College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This was a work-study position and students had to juggle labour and academic assignments simultaneously. It was an excellent way of learning to prioritize both responsibilities while gaining practical workplace skills.

    Cons

I would have liked some more research activities and opportunities to enhance the research assistant part of the job.

    Advice to Management

Teaching assistants should be more involved in research activities. It helps them bring a little extra to the table when applying to schools and jobs.

    Pros

Get to pick your job; usually relates to your major.
    Pays for your books, usually.
Gives you a chance to learn how to budget your money

    Cons

    Stressful as all hell
No term bill, however food and room will make up for that.
    Below minimum wage

    Advice to Management

Stop stressing over little things and let the students do their own thing. As long as they do their work, it shouldn't be a problem how they are as people.
