I have been working at Bergelectric full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The people working for Berg are great. Everyone is helpful and works hard. The overall culture in the office is excellent and makes you feel good about coming to work everyday. Berg has a ton of work and is a very stable company. They are also not afraid to make changes and adapt. More focus as of late has been on field benefits, retention, and recruitment. This is important both because of the labor shortage and because the field employees are really the ones at the heart of the company. Management is very capable and flexible for such a large company. Plenty of growth opportunity is available. Those that work hard and stand out are generally rewarded. Most of the employees in the office were all promoted from the field. No company is perfect but Berg makes smart decisions and focuses on the right areas.

    Cons

A bit low to catch up with technology and rushes to implement new systems that aren't completely vetted.

I worked at Bergelectric full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are some good people working out in the field.

    Cons

Office politics can turn vicious, office personnel get better benefits than field personnel, lack of training for field employees.

I worked at Bergelectric for less than a year

    Pros

......They want us to put here that they offer health insurance, and finally implemented paid holidays and sick time to field employees after everybody took off for greener pastures, but there are still no pros. I feel bad for anyone that ends up on a non prevailing wage job.

    Cons

No vacation time, they want you to buy all your own power tools, surprised they provide tuggers still, that's probably in the next corporate meeting. The health insurance is so so expensive for a family, highest I've ever seen or heard of. They preach safety, but in reality it's all about production, they're trying to get the job done and get their bonuses. Horrible environment for a regular blue collar worker.

I worked at Bergelectric full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Successful electrical contractor with lots of work in the Portland, OR area right now. If you are a journeyman electrician or an apprentice, you will find all the work you want with this company. And they are national so movement to different regional offices is also possible if that is something you are interested in. They focus mostly on large, new construction projects, so if that is your interest then this is the place. Again, they have abundant work right now so I think if you're a journeyman electrician this is a great place to work.

    Cons

I worked there as an apprentice, and can say that you can very easily get stuck doing the same task for months on end because of the size of the projects that they work on. Good for the company, but bad if you are trying to get a diverse experience as an apprentice so that you are prepared to be a well-rounded journeyman electrician when you turn out. An apprentice might spend 6 months just putting in lights, receptacles, and switches and do nothing else. There was talk last year of a program to diversify the training that apprentices receive, but I don't believe anything ever came of that. Also, no paid vacation for field employees, only office staff, so there is a bit of a divide there.

I have been working at Bergelectric full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Bergelectric is a big company. They have a lot of work. Berg was busy when the economy was down and continues to land projects.

    Cons

Bergelectric cons would be. They do not have paid holidays. No vacation time for field employees. Also the pay seems to be less than other companies.

I worked at Bergelectric full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Honestly, don't know if there is any

    Cons

Production trumps all, at the expense of quality and safety, that's the culture here. No employee benefits at all compared to other big companies in the industry, no paid time off for field employees, you pay a premium for health insurance. Extremely high turnover rate, that's no surprise as there are a lot better companies out there.

I have been working at Bergelectric full-time

    Pros

-They usually have pretty consistent work. - I get paid most of the time...(Sometimes my check is short.)

    Cons

-They offer no paid time off to field employees. -No sick time, No vacation and even the National holidays they recognize and are closed, field employees don't get paid. - Also they deduct from prevailing wage rates at $10 per hour when on public works projects and put it into a berg run hedge fund that you can not touch until you retire or are fired. -Health Benefits are a joke and cost too much for my family -Be prepared to travel at your own expense -Lots of paper work as a Foreman (white hat)
